HIRING RANGE: $8,398 - $9,451 Monthly

About the Position:

The City of Grand Junction is seeking a Controller to supervise, manage, and coordinate all accounting and financial reporting division programs, operations, and workflows within the Finance Department. The Controller will coordinate assigned activities with other City departments, divisions, and outside agencies, and oversee financial software systems across the City. This role provides solutions to technical accounting issues in addition to complex administrative support to the Deputy Finance Director.

What You'll Do:

Perform a variety of analytical duties in support of professional accounting functions.

Assist in planning, directing, and coordinating, through subordinate level staff.

Participate in the development and implementation of the goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs.

Manage and lead the preparation and submittal of the City's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

Coordinate the City's external audit.

Develop, administer, and monitor the components of the financial software system including account structure, internal controls, security, reporting, and integration with other software systems and compliance with accounting standards.

Assist other departments in analysis of financial transactions and reconciliations of subsystems to the general ledger.

Assess internal control environment, structure, and policies; review, develop, recommend, and implement internal financial policies, procedures, and controls.

Assist in the development and preparation of the City-wide budget.

Plan and research new accounting pronouncements issued by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board and legal requirements.

Assist with investments, debt management, and cash flow management.

Perform other duties and complete special projects as assigned.

What We're Looking For:

Four (4) years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience, including two (2) years of management and administrative responsibility.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major course work in accounting, finance, or other related fields.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a CPA certificate.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.

Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
