Job Description
As the company continues to grow and refine its operational systems, we are seeking a highly capable, hands-on Controller to bring structure, clarity, and accountability to the financial operations of the business.
This is not a junior bookkeeping or data-entry position.
We are looking for a detail-oriented, proactive, and operationally strong finance professional who can independently manage the day-to-day financial infrastructure of a growing construction/service-based company.
This role requires a high level of autonomy and ownership, with the expectation of independently managing financial operations with minimal oversight.
The right candidate will help stabilize and streamline:
Daily cash flow visibility, tracking, and forecasting, with a structured weekly reporting cadence
Accounts payable and receivable management
Payroll coordination and processing
Bank and credit card reconciliations
GST, payroll remittances, WCB, and compliance tracking
Vendor and lender communication
Job costing and operational reporting
Month-end close preparation
Financial systems organization and process improvement
Accuracy and alignment across QBO, Knowify, Hubdoc, and supporting records
Key Responsibilities
Proactively communicate daily cash position, risks, and upcoming obligations to leadership, with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and timeliness
Coordinate and prioritize AP payments based on operational needs and cash flow
Manage AR follow-up and collections cadence
Prepare, review, and coordinate payroll with accuracy and timeliness
Maintain organized and reliable financial records across all systems
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and supporting financial records
Support leadership with clear financial reporting and operational visibility
Identify risks, discrepancies, or process gaps proactively
Develop and recommend improvements to financial workflows and systems
Coordinate with external accountants and year-end professionals as required
Ideal Background
5–15+ years experience in accounting / financial operations
Construction, trades, landscaping, or service-business experience strongly preferred
Strong QuickBooks Online experience required
Experience with Knowify, job costing systems, or construction/service management platforms strongly preferred
Experience with high transaction volume environments
Comfortable operating in a fast-moving and evolving business
Able to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong organizational, communication, and follow-through skills
Calm under pressure and solutions-oriented
Compensation
$35–$48/hour depending on experience, autonomy, and structure.
This role may begin on a fractional, scaled-hour, or flexible basis during transition and stabilization, with potential to grow into a larger long-term position depending on fit and business needs.
