Controller
NEXE INNOVATIONS INC. develops materials and technology for compostable single-serve packaging to confront the global problem of plastic pollution. We are seeking a Controller to join our team who can deliver effectively and on-time on the objectives of NEXE’s operations and business-related initiatives.
The individual will be an experienced accountant primarily responsible for preparing accounting records for monthly financial closings, managing quarterly and annual financial reporting, and overseeing all financial and accounting activities.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Controller will include:
Leadership & Department Oversight
Take full charge of the finance department, setting strategic direction and ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
Lead and oversee the finance function, ensuring compliance with public company reporting standards (IFRS, TSXV) and best practices.
Work closely with the President and other departments to support financial decision-making and strategic initiatives.
Monthly Corporate Close & Financial Reporting
Oversee and actively participate in the monthly corporate close process, ensuring that reconciliations, bank entries, and corporate journal entries are completed accurately and on schedule.
Organize, review, and retain monthly close documentation; perform select variance analyses to provide actionable insights.
Prepare detailed monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP/IFRS and other regulatory standards.
Quarterly Consolidated Close & Intercompany Reconciliations
Prepare select consolidation journal entries and manage corporate accounting entries.
Prepare and review public financial statements, notes, and Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A) to meet regulatory requirements (e.g., IFRS, TSXV).
Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Focus
Develop and refine a cost accounting framework, with a strong focus on cost per product analysis and manufacturing cost drivers.
Collaborate with production and operations teams to identify cost-saving opportunities, improve profitability, and streamline cost structures.
Process Implementation & Internal Controls
Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of month-end close processes to ensure consistency, accuracy, and timeliness.
Design, implement, and monitor financial controls and accounting policies to safeguard company assets and maintain data integrity.
Regularly review and update accounting procedures in line with evolving regulatory standards and industry best practices.
Strategic Financial Planning & Analysis
Lead the preparation of comprehensive monthly and annual budgets and forecasts, incorporating variance analysis and performance metrics.
Provide strategic financial analysis and scenario modeling to support the President and executive leadership in operational and strategic decision-making.
Develop and monitor key business performance indicators to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
Ad-Hoc and Strategic Initiatives
Assist the President with special projects, including detailed reconciliations, financial analyses, and the preparation of information circulars.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of IFRS, TSXV, securities regulations, and other industry standards to ensure ongoing compliance.
Qualifications and Skills:
High proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) and ERP systems.
Advanced MS Office (especially Excel) and Google Suite skills.
Deep analytical abilities in financial reporting, data analysis, and variance analysis.
Strategic thinker with an entrepreneurial and forward-thinking approach.
Exceptional attention to detail with outstanding organizational and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively lead auditor discussions.
Proven collaborative leader who thrives in a team-oriented environment.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Professional designation required (CPA is mandatory; CMA or other equivalent certification is strongly preferred).
Minimum 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a senior management or leadership role.
Extensive background in a manufacturing environment with a proven track record in cost accounting, particularly in cost per product analysis.
Demonstrated expertise in consolidations, intercompany reconciliations, and managing multi-currency transactions for complex organizations.
Strong history of implementing month-end close processes, internal controls, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
