Job Description
Prepare and cook a variety of Japanese-style dishes, including sushi rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and donburi.
Wash, slice, and prepare fish, seafood, vegetables, and other ingredients according to food safety standards.
Cook rice to the correct texture for sushi and season it appropriately.
Ensure all food preparation areas are clean, well-organised, and compliant with hygiene and safety standards.
Assist with menu preparation and ensure consistency in food quality and presentation.
Monitor ingredient stock levels and inform the manager when supplies need replenishing.
Maintain kitchen equipment and tools, ensuring they are cleaned and stored properly.
Follow food safety guidelines, including temperature control and proper storage of raw ingredients.
Support other kitchen staff and work as part of a team to ensure efficient service.
Package takeaway sushi items and prepare orders for customers when needed.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must meet one of the following:
A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification; or
At least two years of relevant work experience.
Other Skills Required
Experience in sushi preparation or general kitchen work
Knowledge of safe handling of seafood and raw ingredients.
Good knife skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Understanding of food hygiene and safety regulations.
Reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude.
