Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Cook for a Childcare Centre to create safe, nutritious and delicious meals and snacks for children. The ideal candidate would be familiar with food safety, departmental nutrition regulations, highly organized and able to follow the schedule, be able to get to work in various weather conditions, be willing to be relieve for childcare if needed and have knowledge (or be willing to learn) about children's development while working in a supportive and professional setting.
Responsibilities
Prepare meals and snacks, ensuring proper food handling and safety standards are followed
Assist with meal preparation and serve food in accordance with health guidelines
Maintain a clean and organized environment, including cleaning kitchen and equipment in all areas
Adhere to Day Care policies and step in for childcare if needed.
Communicate effectively with Director, staff, parents or guardians and work in conjunction with the Director on menus and grocery budgeting needs
Purchase groceries and ensure food is available each day for the menu listed.
Creation of seasonal four week rotating menu (biannually)
Follow all safety protocols and emergency procedures to ensure a secure environment for children
Keeping kitchen area and environment clean and food safe
Be able to share space with community members on occasion when needed
Skills
Experience in serving or food preparation is preferred, with knowledge of food safety practices . Must have current Food Handler's Course
Child Abuse Registry, Vulnerable Sector Check, Standard First Aid CPR-Level C and willing to take the Orientation training for childcare Centres within 6 months of hire.
Ability to handle food safely, including cooking and food handling skills
Previous experience in food service, restaurant, or kitchen environments is a plus
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently
Compassionate, patient, and attentive to children's individual needs
Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with children, parents, and team members
Knowledge of meal preparation and food industry standards is advantageous

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.50-$16.75 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 30 per week
