Director of Copy

A leading retail brand is seeking a strategic and creatively driven Director of Copy to define, lead, and evolve brand voice across every customer touchpoint. This leader will shape compelling narratives across campaigns, brand storytelling, product, digital, retail, and social, ensuring all written communication is emotionally resonant, culturally relevant, and aligned with brand standards.

This role will set the creative standard for copy across the organization, guiding work from early concept through final execution. The Director of Copy will partner closely with Creative, Marketing, and cross-functional teams to translate business goals into distinctive, high-impact storytelling while protecting brand integrity and continuously pushing creative excellence forward.

Key Responsibilities
• Own and evolve the brand voice across all channels and platforms.
• Set and uphold a high standard for tone, rhythm, point of view, and narrative quality.
• Lead copy development for major campaigns, launches, and brand moments from concept to final delivery.
• Create integrated narratives that build emotional connection and drive brand relevance.
• Ensure all messaging is audience-aware, culturally informed, channel-appropriate, and true to brand voice.
• Partner with Creative, Marketing, and other cross-functional teams to deliver cohesive and compelling ideas.
• Present and defend creative thinking in a way that builds trust, alignment, and momentum.
• Balance creative ambition with business priorities, timelines, and operational needs.
• Mentor and guide writers and creative partners, fostering strong performance and respect for craft.
• Continuously seek opportunities to elevate storytelling through insight, experimentation, and awareness of culture, fashion, media, and emerging creative voices.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Creative Writing, Marketing, or a related field.
• 10+ years of copywriting experience with deep expertise in brand storytelling and original creative work.
• Proven success leading copy across large-scale campaigns and brand initiatives.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring, guiding, or leading writers.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a refined sense of voice, tone, and nuance.
• Strong creative instincts and confidence in decision-making.
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous, and iterative environments.
• Preferred background in agency, fashion, retail, editorial, culture-led brands, or in-house creative studios.

Work Model

This is a hybrid role requiring regular in-office presence for collaboration, meetings, mentoring, and team engagement, with flexibility to work remotely as business needs allow.
