Qualifications:
• Responsible for staying up to date on all secondary market requirements, with an emphasis on the credit union's existing investors, such as FNMA, FHLMC, and FHLB. Changes to these regulations must be communicated correctly and promptly.
• Examines and analyses data on mortgage loan documents to determine whether the buyer, the property, and the loan conditions meet Credit Union and regulatory standards.
• Demonstrate the ability to make solid judgements based on existing underwriting rules, Bank policies, processes, expertise, and experience when it comes to the credit worthiness of applicants.
• The mortgage loan application queue is managed by this person. Completes a complete risk analysis of mortgage loan applications, which involves examining legal documents, analyzing income (including self-employment and tax returns), and analyzing assets, among other things. Using this analysis, determine if the application meets the requirements for the credit union portfolio or the secondary market, and then approve or refuse the application based on the results. If alternative approval criteria are suitable, they are offered.
• Improve the bank's reputation by providing exceptional service to all of its clients, both on the inside and outside of the bank.
• Responsible for maintaining up to speed on all state, local, and federal requirements, including but not limited to the Ability to Repay (ATR), Qualified Mortgage (QM), Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), Truth in Lending (TILA), and any other relevant mortgage lending rules.
• Determine the level of risk involved in the whole loan application and effectively underwrite the loan utilizing lending rules and procedures to ensure that the loan is approved.
• Informed Mortgage Originators of underwriting decisions as quickly as feasible.
• As the Bank's appraisers' point of contact, keep appraisers informed of any issues, changes, or other information.
• Maintain a complete awareness of loan product requirements and industry laws, including assisting in the detection, prevention, and settlement of mortgage fraud.
Skills:
• All of these skills are required: communication, analysis, auditing, research, and decision-making. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities, both verbal and written.
• It is necessary to have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• A combination of education and experience that is comparable to 1-3 years of mortgage underwriting expertise is preferred.
• Underwriting requirements for conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, VHDA, and NC are well-understood.
• Knowledge of CUDL 360 and Symitar, as well as Microsoft Excel and Word Processing
