Job Description
The role of a Couchbase Database Administrator (Couchbase DBA) is to possess in-depth understanding of the database architecture and its performance, integrity, and security.
Main Responsibilities:
• Build and manage the client infrastructure, both cloud-based and on-premise.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the shared responsibility model and implement it effectively.
• Analyze requirements from various stakeholders, including architects, SMEs, clients, and application teams.
• Perform tasks such as monitoring, backup, patching, vulnerability remediation, and troubleshooting issues related to Couchbase.
• Ensure the smooth operation of the client infrastructure.
• Manage identity and access management for the database.
• Identify, analyze, and automate routine tasks to enhance efficiency.
• Develop an understanding of Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and Statements of Work (SOWs).
• Coordinate with multiple teams to serve requests or resolve incidents.
• Implement High Availability, update management, disaster recovery, backup, and restore procedures.
• Maintain accurate documentation, prepare weekly or bi-weekly reports, and update knowledge base articles.
• Train and transfer knowledge to junior resources.
• Provide on-call support during weekends on a rotational basis.
Required Skills and Project Experience:
• Database Management: Install, configure, administer, and support Couchbase Server instances, including NoSQL data storage and retrieval.
• Performance Optimization: Monitor and maintain database health, identify performance bottlenecks, and implement solutions to improve database efficiency.
• Capacity Planning: Plan and manage database capacity to meet current and future needs, including storage, memory, and processing power.
• Backup and Recovery: Define and implement robust backup and archival strategies to ensure data integrity and enable quick recovery from failures.
• Security: Implement and maintain database security measures, including access control, encryption, and auditing.
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve database issues, including performance problems, errors, and security breaches.
• Collaboration: Work with developers to understand their needs, design database schemas, and troubleshoot issues related to data access and manipulation.
• Automation: Automate routine tasks, such as backups, monitoring, and maintenance, using scripts and tools.
• Documentation: Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation of the Couchbase Server environment, including configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
Must-Have Qualifications:
• 3-6 years of hands-on experience in Couchbase.
• Couchbase installation and cluster setup in a production environment.
• Couchbase administration.
• Database backup and recovery.
• Couchbase index creation, management, and tuning.
• Couchbase architecture and concepts.
• Security in Couchbase/security patch applying.
• Troubleshoot a Couchbase cluster for common configuration issues.
• Managing Cross Datacentre Replication (XDCR).
• Performance monitoring.
• Couchbase architecture design ownership, suggesting best practices.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Flexibility to adapt and apply innovation to varied business domains and apply technical solutioning and learnings to use cases across business domains and industries.
• Knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Office tools.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Understanding of application and other infrastructure monitoring tools.
• Understanding of end-to-end infrastructure landscape.
• Experience on virtualization platforms.
• Knowledge on Jenkins automation for patching Couchbase clusters.
• Knowledge on Ansible.
• Knowledge on shell scripting.
Education:
B.E./B. Tech/M.C.A./M.Sc (CS) degree or equivalent from an accredited university.
