Salary: AFTRS Academic 3, Tier 2 (ACA 3.4) - $153,967 pro-rata + 15.4% super, and excellent benefits.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Course Development Specialist to join our Teaching and Learning team.


About the Role

The Course Development Specialist supports the Director of Teaching & Learning by implementing course design directives, undertaking research and development, and focusing on the academic quality assurance of new AFTRS award courses. This includes preparing the necessary documentation in consultation with, and under the direction of relevant stakeholders.

The role operationalises AFTRS academic vision and supports the Award Course Plan by implementing curriculum design tasks and ensuring robust academic documentation. The Course Development Specialist strengthens academic quality assurance, contributes to regulatory compliance and enables efficient course development across AFTRS.


Key Accountabilities

Implement course design directions provided by the Director, Teaching & Learning, and in collaboration with Key Stakeholders.
Research national and international curriculum models to inform AFTRS course structures and best practice.
Ensure activities are aligned with all relevant policy documentation and contribute to the drafting and revision of policy documents, as required and in accordance with guidance from the Director, Teaching & Learning, to support course development and academic quality assurance.
Design and draft academic documentation including course proposals, benchmarking reports, governance papers and quality assurance materials, in alignment with TEQSA requirements.
Facilitate consultation activities, gather input from staff, industry, alumni and students, and translate insights into curriculum documentation.
Incorporate principles of inclusivity and cultural respect into curriculum design and delivery, including diverse student engagement, fostering culturally safe learning environments and embedding First Nations perspectives.
Conduct benchmarking, mapping and alignment exercises.
Prepare documentation for various Boards, Councils and Committee's.
Collaborate with Program Convenors, Discipline Leads and Production teams to ensure accurate academic documentation and readiness for delivery.
There may be a requirement to undertake tasks outside the scope of the responsibilities listed to support the organisation. AFTRS will engage in a conversation should these tasks arise.

About you – You Have:

Experience designing and writing curriculum within higher education, preferably at AQF 7-9.
Demonstrated understanding of TEQSA, AQF, HESF and academic governance frameworks.
Strong skills in curriculum mapping, assessment design and quality assurance processes.
Excellent research, analytical and academic writing capability.
Ability to synthesise complex information into clear curriculum documentation.
Experience facilitating consultation or collaborative design activities.
High level skills in project management and demonstrated experience in coordinating planning, scheduling, monitoring progress and managing competing priorities while effectively engaging with multiple stakeholders to deliver outcomes within set timeframes and quality standards.
Experience in fostering culturally and psychologically safe work environments.
