As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to work from your home or one of our Ministry of Justice sites, depending on your preference and needs. Please note that we also offer hybrid arrangements for those who want the flexibility of both options.
About the Role
In this demanding yet rewarding role, you will be responsible for transcribing various court and other cases in a fast-paced environment. You will be working as part of a national network, collaborating with colleagues across the country to provide accurate transcripts.
There are two main types of core work: evidential transcription and non-evidential transcription. Evidential transcription involves transcribing live court proceedings, often requiring a quick turnaround, while non-evidential transcription includes tasks such as bails, sentencing notes, and oral judgments.
You will have the opportunity to work with a range of cases, including Criminal, Family, Civil, Environment, Coronial, and Employment hearings. Additionally, you may be involved in te reo transcription services, which will require you to improve your Te Reo Maori skills.
Your Skills and Experience
A high standard of written English, including comprehension, vocabulary, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
An accurate audio-typing base speed of 70+ words per minute (wpm), with the expectation of increasing with training in smart transcription tools.
Fully competent in a Windows-based environment, particularly MS Word, with the ability to learn new systems and navigate multiple applications.
Composure under pressure, adaptability, and the ability to self-manage safely in an often-changeable environment.
The ability to understand and apply legal protocols and court procedures.
Excellent customer-focused decision-making skills.

Flexible working hours between 7:30 am and 7:00 pm, with core live transcription hours of 10:00 am to 5:00 pm (minus a 30-60 minute lunch break).
