About the Role
The Iniskim Centre is seeking a non-credit instructor for the Fall 2026 semester, which runs from September 4 to December 22, 2026. This instructor position is available for the Fall and Winter semesters.
The Indigenous University Bridging Program has been offered at Mount Royal University since 1++3 to assist Indigenous learners who are transitioning from high school to post secondary studies. This involves offering a number of courses, including Native Studies 0130 - Contemporary Aboriginal Issues. This course is offered at MRU as the equivalent of Aboriginal Studies 30 in the Alberta provincial curriculum. Indigenous and non-Indigenous students register into the course to learn about Indigenous cultures and to obtain a prerequisite for admission into Child Studies, Communication, and Social Work.
We are seeking instructors with the ability to teach the following course(s):
Native Studies 0130 - Contemporary Aboriginal Issues
Sections 065 / 066 are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am - 11:20 am (30 students)
Sections 067 / 068 are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 am - 12:50 pm (30 students)
(0 credits) This course will provide an overview of Aboriginal world views and belief systems. Students will gain an awareness of similarities and differences among First Nations in the area of social organizations, spiritual beliefs and cultural practices.
Responsibilities
Instruction: course delivery including preparation of course outline, course activities, lesson preparation and assessments, and course Blackboard site; and
Administration: submit course attendance sheets, course outline signature forms, input final grades upon course completion, and participate in scheduled program meetings.
Qualifications
The minimum qualification is a 4-year undergraduate degree in Education or Indigenous Studies, with a preference for an instructor with a graduate degree (Masters or Ph.D.) from any discipline.
Experience working in a school environment, with a preference for experience working in Indigenous communities or organizations.
Identifies as being Indigenous and has a community of affiliation.
