Job Description
o The water level in autoclave where there is no central supply of stream.
o Electrical Sockets / Elements.
o Any Leakage
o All the gadgets are operable
o Check Thermograph
• Receiving the materials from the laundry
o Linen is received from laundry after bleaching and washing
o Check for torn linen
o Cleaned properly or not.
• Receiving the materials from the wards
o Pack linen instrument trays, drums etc received from the wards and OT’s.
o Check whether the instruments are packed in inner and outer wrapper.
o Check that the sharp and micro instruments are packed separately with care.
o Check that the proper labeling of the packs are done.
o Instruments for E.T.O sterilization received without packing as the packing for E.T.O are done in T.S.S.U.
o The register for issuing and receiving the packs are maintained regularly
• Preparation for Autoclaving
o Packing Linen packs used in O.T., Cath Lab & DSA lab are packed in C.S.S.D.
o Different types of linen packs are made for e.g. Cardiac packs, Neuro packs, General packs & gowns etc.
o Linen is folded in such a way that while opening and using by the scrub nurse / Surgeons it is not contaminated.
o Different methods are used in folding the linen & making the packs.
o Signolac Tape (Autoclaving indicator) is applied with each pack.
o The thermograph is changed
• Loading Autoclave Machine & Autoclaving
o Set the autoclave for pressure, temperature & time according to the kind of load.
o Linen & instrument temperature 134 C & pressure 2.25 Kg & time 45 minutes.
o Rubber goods, temperature 110 C, pressure 1.5 Kg & time 15 minutes.
o Microbiological indicator is inserted along with each load.
o Load the machine by giving space in between the loads.
o Close the autoclave properly & recheck the lock.
o Before starting once again check for the temperature, pressure, time & gadgets.
o For E.T.O. the sharps rubbers & micro instruments are packed by the TSSU technicians.
o The proper & approved materials are used in packing E.T.O items & E.T.O indicators applied in outer & inner wrapper.
· Uploading the pack from the Autoclave
o After the cycle is over the materials from the autoclave are removed & check the indicators for colour change.
o Keep the sterilized packs in sterile room in designated area.
o Sharps & micro instruments are kept separately.
o Linen packs & instruments are kept in separate packs.
o Keep the autoclave ready for next load if no loads clean the autoclave machine with help of housekeeping after it is cooled. Turn off the machine when not in use
· Issuing of the autoclaved packs
o Twice a day the autoclaved packs are issued in the wards. After checking the label & indicators for autoclaving.
o The sterile packs used in OT’s are issued to TSSU according to the operation list.
· Preparation and circulation of the duty rosters of the staff.
· Training / Orientation to the juniors and new joining
· Involve in Quality Assurance / Quality Control activities
• Maintenance of Auto clave machine – Water level, Electric Supply, leakages, thermostat stat.
• Receive and inspect the material received from Laundry for cleanliness/damage
• Receiving the materials – Packed/Unpacked linen instrument trays, drums etc from the wards, Inspect for proper packing and labeling
• Pack E.T.O. the sharps rubbers & micro instruments using proper & approved materials & E.T.O indicators applied in outer & inner wrapper
• Regular maintenance of issue/receipt registers
• Further Preparation of Linen packs received for loading into Autoclaving machine as per the the protocols and check lists laid down for OT, Cathlab, Cardiac, general Linen etc
• Prepare the Autoclave Machine - Set pressure, temperature & time according to the kind of load, insert Microbiological indicator
• Uploading the pack from the Autoclave – checking the indicators, sore in sterile zone, separate storage of sharps and micro instrument etc.
• Keep the autoclave ready for next load if no loads clean the autoclave machine with help of housekeeping after it is cooled. Turn off the machine when not in use.
• Issue autoclaved packs to wards and OTs after duly carrying out required checks
• Preparation and circulation of the duty rosters of the staff.
• Training / Orientation to the juniors and new joining.
• Involve in Quality Assurance / Quality Control activities.
• Any other work related to the CSSD
Any other tasks assigned by the HOD/ management from time to time
