Job Description

Support and coach team members to assist the CTP Portfolio and Commercial Underwriting Manager to develop specialist underwriting and technical capabilities within the team
Provide technical expertise ensuring quality decisions and outcomes on new and renewal business
Sydney OR Brisbane CBD location
The purpose of this role is to ensure that quality; sustainable and profitable business is established and maintained using specialist underwriting management and technical product expertise. The role will have a strong focus on driving the development and implementation of effective underwriting and pricing strategies via contributions to scheme premium filings, commercial fleet & intermediary underwriting management, risk appetite and general risk management practices.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Provide specialist advice and underwriting insights to a broad internal stakeholder network, as well as key commercial client relationships, in support of optimising acquisition and retention of the CTP product across the national portfolio and achievement of growth and profit targets
Deliver consistent underwriting across each scheme and increase awareness of the cost and consequence of technical decisions
Use significant judgement, through experience and advanced analysis to problem solve underwriting and technical product problems, and escalated issues
Engage with internal and external stakeholders on the interpretation of legislation and regulatory guidelines as required
Management of sensitive/high risk underwriting matters according to legislative and regulatory guidelines
Management of commercial profit modelling activities consistent with statutory requirements and Group Risk framework.
Assessing and underwriting commercial risks to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Skills & Experience:

Minimum of 3 years underwriting experience, preferably in Compulsory Third Party Insurance or alternatively experience as a Commercial Fleet/Motor or related Underwriter
Knowledge of full spectrum of underwriting activities, practices, tools and considerations, and the ability to utilise these to manage the underwriting process
General insurance, particularly CTP insurance product knowledge, Commercial Fleet & Motor also desirable
Ability to manage large amounts of data, rationalise and simplify complex problems to draw insights and develop solutions with attention to detail
Financial knowledge, sufficient to interpret and analyse reports relevant to area of responsibility and develop basic profit models
An understanding of the industry and internal and external factors that impact business performance.
