The role

As a Dangerous Goods Officer, you will be working collaboratively in a team of dedicated safety officers to positively influence people’s ongoing safety from dangerous goods and explosives across Western Australia. The officer in this role will be responsible for a diverse range of activities, including site inspections, compliance assessments, conducting investigations, collecting, and analysing accident information, undertaking enforcement, and implementing processes to prevent accidents.

Our ideal candidate will also have the capacity to build good working relationships with a range of stakeholders, address community concerns and provide guidance to the public about dangerous goods through effective communication.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.

A detailed resume outlining your key achievements, work history, education and professional development and covering letter of no more than two (2) pages, addressing the following points:

Sound knowledge of the hazardous properties of explosives and dangerous goods and their safety management.
Demonstrated ability to perform inspections, experience in investigations would be highly regarded.
Demonstrated ability to write clear and concise papers, reports and other written material.

This role is identified as having a higher likelihood of exposure to potentially traumatic events.
