Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Data Technician specializing in structured cabling and card access systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting of low-voltage cabling and related security systems in commercial and industrial settings. You will work both independently and as part of a team to ensure high-quality installations that meet industry standards.
Key responsibilities
Install, terminate, test, and label structured cabling systems, including Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A, fiber optic, and other low-voltage wiring.
Install and program card access control systems, including card readers, electronic locking hardware, and control panels.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues with structured cabling, network connections, and access control systems.
Mount and terminate hardware such as racks, cabinets, patch panels, and fiber enclosures.
Install and configure network equipment, including routers, switches, and wireless access points.
Complete detailed and accurate documentation, including work orders, test results, and as-built drawings.
Adhere to all company quality and safety programs, as well as BICSI (or equivalent) standards.
Provide excellent customer service by professionally interacting with clients and explaining work procedures.
Required qualifications and skills:
Minimum of 3+ years of experience in structured cabling installation and service.
Proven experience installing and servicing access control systems.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer specifications.
Own and be Proficient with relevant hand and power tools.
Experience operating elevated platform machines like scissor or boom lifts.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a keen attention to detail.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving abstract.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various environments.
Preferred qualifications (considered an asset)
M-Class Ticket- Voice, Data and Video.
BICSI or other relevant industry certification.
Post-secondary education in electrical, telecommunications, or a related field.
Experience with fiber optic termination and splicing.
