We’re the Health Insurance Fund of Australia, but our friends call us HIF and we're looking for a Lead Data Specialist to join our Data and Proposition team, during what's an exciting and professionally rewarding time at HIF.
About the role
The Lead Data Specialist holds a critical role in analysing company data to uncover insights that can assist HIF in making informed decisions that improve products and services for our members. They excel at transforming and managing large data sets, collaborating with various stakeholders, and driving effective data strategies for business success.
In this role you will:
Develop, maintain, monitor, and enhance the data warehouse and analytics architecture to meet HIF’s business analysis and reporting requirements.
Possess a solid understanding of AWS data services (e.g., Glue with Pyspark, Lake Formation, IAM, Lambda, Step Functions) and a strong interest in expanding your knowledge of additional AWS services. Experience with similar services in GCP or Azure is a plus.
Demonstrate expertise in efficiently processing data within databases or data lakes, with hands-on experience in deploying the infrastructure needed to support these processes.
Collaborate closely with teams across IT, finance, and operations to understand data needs and deliver solutions that align with business objectives.
Lead the evolution of HIF’s data strategy, enhancing its data architecture and driving the exploration and implementation of cloud-based data warehousing solutions.
Support automation initiatives through data-driven insights and analysis.
Apply data mining techniques, perform statistical analysis, and build high-quality predictive systems integrated with HIF’s core systems.
Identify data patterns and trends through mining and analysis, developing predictive models, and building/implementing algorithms, as well as conducting simulations.
Establish and enforce data governance frameworks and policies to ensure data integrity, privacy, and regulatory compliance. Implement robust data security measures in collaboration with risk, compliance, and cybersecurity teams to mitigate data-related risks.
Provide leadership, guidance, development, and coaching to team members to ensure they can deliver exceptional data analysis and reporting services that drive business productivity and stakeholder satisfaction.
Some of skills and experience you will have :
Essential
Strong problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Python and/or R, SQL, Terraform, Git, and experience working with the command-line interface (CLI).
Exposure to statistical modeling techniques.
Ability to work independently and manage projects effectively.
Skilled at communicating results using Business Intelligence tools.
3+ years of experience in a data specialist role.
Experience with data visualization tools, preferably Qlik and/or PowerBI.
Expertise in data acquisition and transformation processes.
Desirable
Experience with data orchestration tools.
Familiarity with data quality tools.
Experience using Docker for containerization.
Knowledge of Jira management and configuration.
Familiarity with Azure DevOps pipelines (or equivalent tools like GitHub Actions).
