The Messaging and Inferred Identity team, within Data Science and Engineering (DSE), has two primary domains of responsibility: (1) Driving our Data Science and Analytics strategy for messaging to our existing member base; and (2) Researching, building, and deploying our “Inferred Identity” algorithms to better understand how our members behave. The team functions in a horizontal capacity, interacting with many diverse parts of the business.
We are looking for an exceptional technical leader to manage a team with a variety of role profiles to guide and shape our strategy in these domains. Strong cross-functional collaboration skills are a must; the messaging space has a complex stakeholder landscape, and the Inferred Identity space requires building out a 0-1 capability that could interact with many diverse systems. In success, the leader in this space has the potential to influence and improve the function of many areas across Netflix, from our recommendations, to Ads, Games, and the way we evaluate content.
In This Role, You Will
• Lead a team of mixed technical roles (data scientists, research scientists and engineers, analytics engineers, and data engineers)
• Drive the vision and shape the roadmaps of the Messaging Data Science and Virtual Identity Algorithm domains, balancing the needs of many business stakeholder teams while leading the team to maximize impact on the business
• Drive the strategy, research, development, and launch of our Inferred Identity algorithms - a 0-1 space that will interact with multiple more established business areas
• Be a strategic thought partner in your domains, identifying opportunities and shaping the strategy to maximize impact on the business
• Drive a culture of innovation through collaboration with other leaders in the broader team
• Enact Netflix values in daily work and interactions
You Have
• Demonstrated experience leading ML and Data Science teams - particularly in open-ended spaces or domains with complex stakeholder environments
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including proven ability to effectively collaborate with a variety of technical and non-technical business partners and other data science leaders
• A passion for driving and influencing product strategies in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
• Willingness to learn and rapidly absorb business context in a 0-1 space that needs to interact with stakeholders across the business
• Ability to deal with ambiguity; a strong ownership mindset, and a desire to thrive on minimal oversight and process
• PhD in Statistics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or related field is preferred
• High-energy self-starter with a passion for business impact through data science and machine learning, tolerance for ambiguity in a fast-paced setting, and a positive attitude
Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $360,000 - $+20,000.
