Role Overview
We’re seeking a Data Scientist to develop predictive models and analytics for hydrology, meteorology, and environmental monitoring. You’ll turn sensor and remote-sensing data into operational insights, productionise models, and collaborate with engineering and product teams to deliver reliable, actionable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and validate predictive models for river flow, rainfall, water quality, and related environmental metrics.
Build robust data pipelines and feature engineering workflows for time-series and spatial data.
Productionise ML models with monitoring, versioning, and CI/CD.
Analyse large environmental datasets and produce visualisations, dashboards, and technical reports.
Design experiments and evaluation frameworks; implement anomaly detection and forecasting systems.
Collaborate with field engineers and product managers to integrate models into products and APIs.
Ensure data quality, metadata standards, and compliance with relevant data governance.
Must-have Skills & Experience
3+ years in data science, applied statistics, or related field.
Strong Python skills and experience with ML libraries (scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch).
Proven experience with time-series modelling and spatial data analysis (e.g., geopandas, rasterio).
Proficiency with data processing tools (Pandas, Spark) and advanced SQL.
Familiarity with sensor/IoT data, remote sensing, or environmental datasets.
Strong statistical foundations and experimental design experience.
Excellent communication skills and ability to present technical results to non-technical stakeholders.
Right to work in Australia.
Nice-to-have
Background in hydrology, meteorology, environmental science, or related domain.
Experience with GIS tools, satellite data (e.g., Sentinel, Landsat), or APIs for weather data.
Familiarity with MLOps practices, feature stores, and model monitoring for drift/anomalies.
Experience with BI tools (Looker, Tableau, Power BI).

Pay: $70.11 – $92.12 per hour
