Job Description
The Database Admin consultant will be a member of the Global Database Engineering team and will be responsible for effective service transition and efficient service delivery operations for database environments for our managed hosting customers.
Daily responsibilities include providing Tier 3/4 escalation support for hosting customers in their Oracle and MySQL DB Environment.
This includes installation, configuration, design and maintenance of database infrastructure and customer environments as part of a managed hosting solution.
He or she will also be responsible for incident and change management for clients, installation, implementing High availability database environments, troubleshooting of highly critical production environment with ++.++% uptime and meeting service level objectives.
Required skills:
• 4+ years of strong hands-on experience in Oracle with the ability to guide team members on resolving complex issues.
• Experience with supporting customers that rely on 24x7 reliability of their Oracle databases.
• Ability to collaborate independently on critical issues with clients and provide root cause analysis
• Ability to identify service improvement initiatives and drive them to implementation
• Mentoring and knowledge transfer to other DBAs and participate in complex and/or time critical troubleshooting
• Assess technical requirements for new services; architect, design, present or propose solutions to customers/architects.
• Setting up and maintaining High availability environments on Oracle RAC/DataGuard.
• Strong Knowledge of Database Backup and recovery using RMAN and logical backups.
• ITIL certification or Good understanding of ITIL methodologies for change, incident and problem management
• Strong communication skills and customer-support focused attitude
• Self-starter who can work in mission critical environments without any supervision Other Desired skills:
• Good knowledge of MySQL environment. and concepts in versions 4.x, 5.x
• Experience with non-Oracle databases like Sybase, MongoDB, Postgres, Couchbase, Cassandra
• Awareness of managing databases hosted in AWS, Azure, Oracle or Google Cloud environments
• Development background with knowledge of PL/SQL
• Basic RedHat/Linux or Solaris Administration.
• Understanding of OEM and Oracle grid-control.
• Supporting Exadata environments
• OCP/OCM/OCE Certifications
• MySQL Database Administrator Certification
