Job Role:
As a database engineer, you will be joining Capstone's global database engineering team and working with developers, system engineers, risk team, traders and portfolio managers, business analysts on everything about Capstone's global database systems and beyond as both an infrastructure and a mission-critical application platform.
You'll be actively participating in database design and development work and developing and maintaining databases' availability, reliability, security and safety, performance, replication, and data pipelines, as such, you're basically a full-stack database engineer plus data engineer.
Job Description:
Unlike traditional DBAs, you will also be responsible for database schema design, review, optimization and deployment, and SQL queries, views, stored procedures and triggers development, performance analysis and tuning will take majority of your time, while you'll also be spending good amount of time and effort developing and maintaining data pipelines including database replications and data ETL processes to ensure data integrity is consistent across the global distributed database system of Capstone.
Other operational duties include but not limited to database systems' disaster recovery design and implementation, database backup and restore, and database replication, monitoring and maintenance for both HA and DR purposes.
You'll work with other system teams to administer, maintain, develop and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the security, safety and integrity of the databases.
You'll perform database and software life-cycle activities to ensure highest level of system performance and availability and compliance with business requirements by reviewing database schema change requests started in dev environment and implement them in UAT and Prod environment with CI/CD pipeline and change management.
Specifically, you'll perform MS SQL Server and SYBASE ASE Database and Application server administration, as well as supporting data pipelines to replicate and load data to cloud data warehouses including but not limited to AWS Redshift and Snowflake.
And there will other DBMS support needed such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and Cassandra occasionally.
Required Skills:
5 years of experience as either a DBA or a database engineer in MS SQL Server Enterprise Edition version 2008 all the way to version 2026 and Sybase ASE server 15.x and 16.0.
2 years of experience with Cloud technologies such as AWS and Azure.
2 years of experience with Linux platform and competent with Linux commands, shell scripting and Python scripting.
Knowledge and proven experience of supporting different database drivers and understand ODBC/JDBC drivers and FreeTDS technologies and experience with installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
2 years of experience with database modelling and schema design.
2 years of experience with ETL/data pipeline processes.
Competent with ANSI-SQL and T-SQL development.
Knowledge and experience with database monitoring tools.
Knowledge and experience with SSO with Kerberos.
Understand SAN, disk array and storage technologies.
Basic networks knowledge and knows how to trouble shoot basic network issues related to database connectivity.
Preferred Skills:
Familiar with AWS CLI.
Experience with AWS DMS.
Experience with AWS EC2 and EBS volume.
Administration experience with Linux (Redhat/CentOS) and Windows Servers and Windows cluster service.
Knowledge and experience with AWS Redshift and Snowflake cloud data warehouse systems
