About the Role : We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) with strong expertise in Microsoft Azure environments, particularly with Azure Virtual Machines (VMs) running SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, and other related cloud database services. This is a fully remote role, ideal for a proactive DBA comfortable managing mission-critical, high-availability database systems in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.As an Azure VM DBA, you will be responsible for ensuring optimal database performance, high availability, and security of our cloud-based database platforms. You will work closely with development and operations teams, supporting agile delivery and 24x7 mission-critical applications.Key Responsibilities : - Manage and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases deployed on Azure VMs, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Cosmos DB.- Perform standard DBA operations including monitoring, backups, restores, patching, and upgrades with minimal downtime.- Optimize database performance through query tuning, index optimization, and resource management.- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues promptly to minimize system downtime.- Implement and manage high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions such as Always On Availability Groups, replication, and failover clusters.- Monitor and manage Azure database service costs, ensuring cost optimization without compromising performance.- Perform database installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades on Azure VM environments.- Collaborate with development teams to support database design, development, and deployment.- Participate in on-call pager rotation to provide 24x7 database support.- Document procedures, configurations, and troubleshoot cases to improve team knowledge base.- Follow Agile software development methodologies and actively participate in sprint planning and reviews.- Stay current with Azure cloud service updates, database technologies, and best practices.Required Skills & Qualifications : - 5-8 years of experience as a Database Administrator with strong exposure to Microsoft Azure cloud environments.- Hands-on experience managing Microsoft SQL Server on Azure VMs and Azure SQL Database.- Familiarity with other Azure data services such as Azure Cosmos DB or related platforms.- Expertise in standard DBA tasks : monitoring, backup/restore, query tuning, replication, failover, patching, and upgrades.- Solid knowledge of database performance tuning and optimization techniques.- Experience working in high availability, disaster recovery, and 24x7 operational environments.- Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve complex issues under pressure.- Experience performing database upgrades and migrations with minimal downtime.- Good understanding of cost management in Azure databases.- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.- Experience working in Agile teams and supporting iterative delivery models.- Willingness to participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support.
