DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR

Position Overview
The Database Administrator is responsible for all aspects of Insight’s database administration and production support. This responsibility include database configuration, maintenance, production support, troubleshooting, and capacity planning, and assists in the daily maintenance and administration of Oracle and MS SQL and related production activities within Insight.
What you’ll do at Insight
Production Support - 40%
Review logs for errors and correct any issues discovered
Review backup jobs and correct any issues found
Rerun jobs or other queries as requested
Perform routine maintenance tasks
Monitor database systems operation and correct any issues discovered
Development support - 30%
Query analysis
Provide assistance in SQL statement tuning
Capacity planning, system landscape development / installation - 10%
Code promotion and implementation activities - 10%
Misc. Tasks - 10%
Main Functions
Monitor error log(s), database and log space, user activity and resource utilization of production environment. Work with application programmers to insure that application problems do not adversely affect production operations.
Monitor system resources of database servers to assure production systems meet availability requirements and hardware enhancements are scheduled in a timely fashion.
Responsible for auditing and integrity of the data
Create, maintain and refresh required Oracle instances/databases for development, test and production environments.
Provide end users with technical data in a clear and meaningful manner
Provide current and historical information and analysis
Establish and manage user access, and design and implement user environments
Work with development team to identify new technologies and manage the implementation through all levels of the system landscape.
Ability to interact with end users to identify and resolve production issues related to their usage of the system.
Mentor and train other database administrators, developers and other Insight personnel project-related.
This position participates in the on-call rotation to support systems after hours and on weekends.
What you’ll need to join Insight
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
4 years of experience working with Oracle or MS SQL databases in a corporate environment.
Completion of one of the following: Microsoft Certified Database Administrator or Oracle Database Administrator Certified Associate / Professional.
Strong knowledge writing Structured Query Language
Strong understanding of business rules for key business functions
Good technical aptitude
Understand relational databases (MS SQL Server, Oracle)
Ability to analyze and tune SQL statements.
Ability to use common tools to monitor and analyze database operations
Ability to troubleshoot at the component level
