About the job:
Key responsibilities:
1. Install MySQL 8+ and PostgreSQL 15+ on Cloud SQL or self-managed GCE instances
2. Apply routine patches and minor upgrades; assist seniors with major-version migrations
3. Configure users, roles, parameter groups (my.cnf, postgresql.conf)
4. Schedule and verify backups (Percona XtraBackup, pg\_dump / pg\_basebackup)
5. Run restore drills under a documented run-book
6. Build dashboards and alerts in Cloud Monitoring, PMM, or Grafana
7. Capture slow queries, recommend index or query fixes, and escalate deep tuning when required
8. Deploy and monitor read-replica or primary-replica topologies (Cloud SQL, streaming replication)
+. Execute documented fail-over procedures during incidents
10. Enforce least-privilege access, SSL/TLS, IAM roles
11. Mask or anonymise data in non-prod environments per playbooks
12. Write Bash or Python scripts for backup checks, log rotation, health audits
13. Embed Liquibase or Flyway migration steps in Cloud Build or GitHub Actions pipelines
14. Manage package updates, users, firewalls on Debian, Ubuntu, or CentOS
15. Deploy and tune Apache or Tomcat to documented baselines
16. Provision Cloud SQL instances, Compute Engine VMs, IAM policies
17. Mirror equivalent tasks in an on-prem 'AWS-style' lab (EC2-like VMs, S3-compatible storage)
18. Join the rotational on-call; perform first-line triage, collect logs, escalate when needed

20. Share tips and post-mortems with the team via Confluence or Google Docs
