Introduction: We are seeking a highly skilled and
experienced Database Administrator Subject Matter Expert (DBA SME) to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing the performance of our database environments, ensuring the integrity, availability, and security of our databases. You will also provide technical leadership, mentor junior DBA team members, and assist in the design and implementation of database architectures.
Your expertise will play a crucial role in the successful operation of our data systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Design & Architecture: Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of robust database architectures that support business applications and systems. Collaborate with development teams to design optimal database schemas and configurations.
Performance Optimization: Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies for query performance, indexing, and resource utilization.
Database Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of multiple databases, ensuring their availability, integrity, and security. This includes backups, restores, and disaster recovery planning.
Database Security: Implement and enforce database
security policies, ensuring the protection of sensitive data. Conduct regular security audits and address vulnerabilities.
Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: Provide expert-level support for complex database-related issues, troubleshooting performance problems, data corruption, or other technical challenges.
Database Upgrades & Migrations: Plan and execute database upgrades, patching, and migrations with minimal downtime and risk.
Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain scripts and tools for automating routine database administration tasks, backups, monitoring, and maintenance.
Collaboration & Mentorship: Work closely with
development, DevOps, and system administration teams to ensure seamless integration of database solutions with other infrastructure components.
Mentor junior DBAs and share best practices to continuously improve team performance.
Documentation & Compliance: Create and maintain detailed documentation for database configurations, procedures, and disaster recovery plans. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to database management.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay current with new database technologies, trends, and best practices. Continuously evaluate and introduce new tools or techniques that improve database efficiency and reliability.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
Minimum of 6-10 years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a strong focus on database management, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
In-depth knowledge of SQL-based databases (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.).
Expertise in database design, performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
Experience with cloud databases and cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.).
Strong scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python, etc.). Solid understanding of database security practices
and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA). Proficiency in backup and recovery strategies, high availability, and disaster recovery procedures.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to manage complex database environments.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to interact effectively with technical and non-technical teams.
