The Role
KPMG’s Energy and Natural Resources (“ENR”) tax practice covers Oil and Gas, Mining, Power and Utilities (including renewables) and Chemicals. As our clients are facing unprecedented change with the energy transition and fiscal uncertainty our ENR tax and legal practice is growing significantly.
Our clients comprise some of the largest global ENR clients, covering both UK headquartered and inbound groups. Our work covers deal advisory support, international tax and domestic tax advice. A successful candidate would have opportunities to work across these areas.
Our Deal Advisory Tax work includes advisory services across the whole deal spectrum including company/sell-side vendor assist, refinancing and due diligence projects, to buy-side due diligence and structuring. We help our clients understand historical tax issues and structure transactions, with a continuous focus on maximising value throughout the investment cycle. Working collaboratively across the KPMG network, our work often involves advice on multiple countries, taxes, and work streams.
Our work in the tax advisory space includes supporting clients with business and fiscal change. This can include advising on new jurisdiction entry, the development of new business areas, business reorganisations, refinancing and leasing as well as the impact of windfall taxes and global fiscal change (e.g. BEPS 2.0 Pillar 2).
Key Responsibilities
Work closely with Partners and/ or Directors on complex engagements to deliver exceptional advice and service
Support in the pursuit of new opportunities, working on proposals and joining pitches
Develop and maintain client relationships
Be a key KPMG point of contact for clients, legal advisers, and other KPMG teams to facilitate effective delivery
Coach and develop colleagues, collaborate with peers and be constantly learning
Prepare/ oversee detailed technical advice covering a range of UK and international tax issues
Perform/ oversee detailed analysis of tax related documents/ data, highlighting key issues and articulating the commercial impact of these to the client
Collaborate with other UK and overseas tax specialists, critically analysing and challenging their input
Demonstrate up-to-date tax technical knowledge in respect of key UK and OECD developments
Understand financial models from a tax perspective
Input on thought leadership
The Person
Qualified CTA or ACA/ CA or equivalent
Enthusiastic and a keen interest in working on transactions
Previous experience in the ENR sector is an advantage but candidates without this experience that demonstrate a strong interest in the sector and a willingness to learn will be considered
Good interpersonal skills
Good oral and written communication skills
Good UK corporate tax knowledge
Good analytical skills, curious and seeks to resolve issues and provide commercial advice
Ability to work as part of a team and manage own workload
Good Excel and PowerPoint skills
