Te Kaunihera aa Takiwaa o Waikato (Waikato District Council) is committed to 'Liveable. Thriving and Connected Communities' and to do that we need great people.

Who are we looking for:

We have a fantastic new opportunity for an advisor to join our Democracy Team. The purpose of this role is to lead best practice democratic services and governance advice, and professional committee advisory services to Council, The Mayor, Elected Members, Community Boards & other key stakeholders. We are seeking an Advisor who has sound experience and is a proactive individual, someone who has an eye for detail and can apply skilled political nous in providing timely, accurate advice to our customers.

You will be able to prioritise effectively to meet multiple deadlines, and work collaboratively and adapt with colleagues, elected members and the public to meet our team objectives. Furthermore, you will be an influential capable individual who works well within a team and demonstrate what excellence looks like in the democracy space while dealing with multiple stakeholders and agendas. You'll be experienced in preparing and understanding formal protocols for meetings (e.g. Standing Orders), you'll have exceptional written and verbal communication skills and you will be organised and confident as a representative of our team.

As part of our newly formed team that is part of the Chief Executive Office, you'll be the advisor for a number of our Council committees and community boards, as well as working on key governance projects such as implementation of a governance solutions tool and elections.

If you have the experience and a 'get up and go', friendly approach to all you do, and want some fun along the way, we would love to hear from you.

Why join our team:

It's time to rethink the way you work and especially if you are keen to do something with scope for social impact and that can genuinely make a difference to the lives of those who call the Waikato district home. Our head office is based in North Waikato, Ngaaruawaahia, only 15 minutes from Hamilton and an hour or so from Auckland moving the opposite way from the traffic! The benefits of working at WDC include an easy commute, free parking, and truly flexible working that enables you to balance all aspects of your life. Our team members thrive on taking breaks to walk the Waikato River walk and hit the challenging Hakarimata track at lunch or after work.

We are an equal opportunities employer, and we value diversity. We welcome applicants who are keen on rolling up their sleeves and helping to bring our ambitions to life. We ensure all parts of our recruitment and employment process are carried out without discrimination.

We have a strong safety culture and as part of this our preferred candidates will be required to undergo a criminal check and pre-employment screening which includes ******* and drug testing.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Application Closing Date: Sunday, 27th October at 11:55pm.
