We are seeking an experienced or upcoming Development Officer Building to join the City Development and Safety team.
About the Role
As the Development Officer Building, you’ll play a key part in delivering high‑quality building assessment and inspection services across the City of Burnside. Working closely with the Team Leader Building and Senior Building Surveyor, you will:
Assess Building Rules Consent applications of varying complexity.
Conduct mandatory building inspections to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and the National Construction Code.
Investigate and respond to alleged breaches and undertake compliance and enforcement activities.
Provide accurate, professional building and development advice to residents, developers, builders, and external stakeholders.
Prepare reports, contribute to policy guidance, and represent Council in hearings as required.
Support a positive customer experience by providing timely, professional and collaborative service.

About You
We are looking for someone with:
Ability to read and analyse building plans, specifications and relevant legislation.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and specialist systems (e.g., property/GIS software).
Working knowledge of the Planning, Development & Infrastructure Act 2016, Regulations, National Construction Code and related guidelines.
Qualifications & Experience
Completed or due to complete Tertiary study applicable to gaining Australian Institute of Building Surveying Accreditation as an Assistant Building Surveyor or equivalent.
Experience in building assessment, inspections, and compliance functions.
A current, unencumbered SA Driver’s Licence.
This position is offered as a permanent, full-time basis classified at Level 4/5 competency based on skills and experience under the City of Burnside Administration Employees Enterprise Agreement 2023. You will be required to undertake a National Police Check as part of the on-boarding process. You must have the right to live and work in Australia to apply for this position.
