Designation: Diesel Mechanic Heavy Vehicles (Automobile Department)
Department: Automobile / Mechanical Maintenance
Location: Steel Plant, Industrial Growth Centre, Industrial Road, Phase II Siltara, Sondra, Chhattisgarh
Reporting To Head of department / Manager
Job Summary:
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy diesel-operated equipment used in steel plant operations, including JCBs, Hydras, Loaders, Excavators, and Cranes. The role ensures maximum equipment availability, safe operation, and compliance with plant maintenance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform preventive, breakdown, and corrective maintenance of heavy diesel vehicles and equipment.
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, transmissions, brakes, steering, and cooling systems.
• Carry out maintenance and repairs on equipment such as JCB, Hydra, Wheel Loader, Excavator, Mobile Crane, and other heavy vehicles.
• Identify faults using diagnostic tools and take corrective action to minimize downtime.
• Conduct routine inspections and lubrication as per maintenance schedules.
• Replace or repair defective parts, assemblies, and components.
• Ensure compliance with safety procedures, work permits, and standard operating practices within the steel plant.
• Maintain service records, logbooks, and maintenance reports.
• Coordinate with supervisors and other maintenance teams for efficient equipment availability.
• Assist during major overhauls, shutdowns, and emergency breakdowns.
• Ensure proper housekeeping and care of tools and equipment.
Skills & Competencies:
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines and heavy vehicle systems
• Expertise in hydraulics and pneumatics
• Ability to read technical manuals and service diagrams
• Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Awareness of industrial safety standards
• Ability to work in shifts and handle emergency breakdowns
• Teamwork and communication skills
