Position Summary:

The Diesel Mechanic will be involved in the Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) maintenance efforts for the Savage Trucking Facility in Wilmington, CA and ensure the facility's maintenance work is completed timely, efficiently and safely through preventative maintenance. The Diesel Mechanic will report to the General Manager.

Here is what you will be doing, but not limited to the following:

Perform road services, routine services, and diagnose problems

Maintain appropriate record

Change/adjust brakes, change/mount tires, grease the CMVs, repair/replace lights, check/fill gear boxes, change oil/filter, check/change wheel bearings, change springs, clutch adjustment/replacement

Understand/repair air brake system, steering component, and Trailer Suspension

Steam-clean tractor/trailer units and other general cleanup duties, such as the shop and grounds area

Responsible as a team with preventative maintenance practices for the facility

Ensures all work is performed in compliance with regulatory requirements, proper safety rules, maintenance, and operating procedures

Requirements of a successful Diesel Mechanic:

Mechanically inclined

CDL Class A, a plus

Knowledge of electrical system

Ability to perform annual inspections

Diagnostic ability

Understanding of brake systems

Computer skills a plus

Excellent communication skills: written and spoken

For safety reasons, must be able to read, write, and understand, and follow written and/or verbal instructions in English

Must be dependable, honest, and cooperative

Have clean work habits and be willing to learn and follow all company guidelines and policies

Here are a few of the physical requirements for this role:

Will have exposure to chemicals and materials, including acid wash, solvents, greases, and oil

Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs

Must be able to climb under truck on creeper

Able and willing to enter confined spaces

May be required to work 12 or more hours per shift
