What you'll do

As per IBEW Collective Agreement.

A Journeyperson qualified in machine work and welding in diesel generating stations

A Journeyperson qualified to work in diesel and other non-integrated area (NIA) generating stations. Diesel Station

Mechanics shall undertake the installation, operation, maintenance, and record-keeping of overhauls, troubleshooting and

repair of mechanical equipment and mechanical portions of electrical equipment in NIA generating stations, or at their

headquarters.

What you bring

As per IBEW Collective Agreement.

Journeyperson qualification as a Diesel Engine Mechanic, Heavy Duty Mechanic or equivalent for diesel generating

station maintenance

Valid Class 5 B.C. driver's license

Experience in diesel generating mechanical equipment maintenance, repair, overhaul and troubleshooting on equipment

such as: skid steers, air compressors, fuel and oil systems, pumps, coolant systems etc.

Experience in troubleshooting maintenance and overhaul of specific diesel engines utilized in Diesel Generation

Knowledge of safety standards Safety Practice Regulations, Power System Safety Protection

General tradesman knowledge on tool usage, welding, machining, cranes, lifting, etc.

Ability to work alone with minimum supervision

This is a unique opportunity to directly support electricity delivery in BC Hydro’s Non-Integrated Area (NIA) communities.

This role works with other NIA tradespersons maintaining NIA generating stations in remote locations across British

Columbia.

NIA Diesel Mechanics are responsible for maintaining diesel and hydroelectric generators, including auxiliary equipment.

Work tasks include performing Preventative Maintenance, equipment trouble shooting and performing diesel engine major

overhauls.

This position is headquartered in Surrey and requires the ability to work in the field at remote locations for up to 50% of the

working time (including weekends).

A written quiz and hands on test covering technical, safety, and administrative skills may form part of the selection

process.

Please supply all Trade Qualifications, including any specific training/manufacturer certifications you have received.

A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain the following requirements in good standing: Red Seal - Trade

Certificate (Diesel Engine Mechanic, Heavy Duty Mechanic) = In Good Standing Driver's License Type = Class 5
