Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced ADA Digital Accessibility Specialist to support short-term remediation and compliance efforts. This role is responsible for ensuring that all digital content published by agency stakeholders complies with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, including public-facing websites and service-related documents.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in accessibility remediation across multiple content formats and a strong working knowledge of web accessibility standards such as WCAG.
Key Responsibilities
• Interpret and apply federal and state accessibility regulations, including ADA and WCAG guidelines
• Perform accessibility remediation and validation of digital content to ensure compliance
• Review, edit, and convert content into accessible formats across multiple platforms, including:
• Website and CMS (Content Management System) content
• Microsoft Word documents and Excel spreadsheets
• PDF documents (tagging, reading order, structure fixes, etc.)
• Conduct accessibility testing using automated and manual tools
• Collaborate with agency stakeholders to ensure accessibility standards are understood and implemented
• Provide recommendations and guidance on best practices for maintaining accessibility compliance
Required Qualifications
• Proven experience in digital accessibility remediation across web and document formats
• Strong understanding of WCAG 2.x guidelines and ADA compliance requirements
• Hands-on expertise in remediating:
• PDFs (tagging, structure, screen reader compatibility)
• Microsoft Office documents (Word, Excel)
• Experience working with Content Management Systems (CMS), preferably Drupal
• Familiarity with accessibility testing tools (e.g., screen readers, Axe, WAVE, Adobe Acrobat Pro)
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical requirements for non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience working with government agencies or public-sector digital content
• Accessibility certifications (e.g., CPACC, WAS) are a plus
Additional Requirements
• Must be available for occasional onsite meetings (local candidates only)
• Work will primarily be performed remotely
• Ability to pass a background check is required
