The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and driven Digital Journalist to join the SBS News team. We're looking for someone who shares our vision and cares about providing reportage that matters. We are committed to reaching all Australians - this role offers the opportunity to contribute to our diverse and distinctive news coverage.
Working as a Digital Journalist for SBS News, covering breaking news, news of the day, as well as features and news explainers
Pitching, reporting on and writing original stories, with a focus on the SBS Charter and reflecting the broad experiences of all Australians
Conducting interviews and digital news gathering
Bringing forward ideas and participating in team discussions around daily coverage of news and being an active member of the news team
Pitching visual concepts including graphics, interactive ideas and visual storytelling to accompany your original reporting, and working with the design team to bring these to life
Using analytics and monitoring tools for content performance to better inform pitches and stories, engage with audiences and deliver on corporate KPIs
About you
A confident and creative writer with a strong eye for detail and the angles that matter to our audience. Thrive on covering breaking news, and be able to work with the news editor to time manage other projects
You'll jump at the chance to tell stories that matter, and seek to bring forward unreported stories and have the ability to deliver lead stories to tight deadlines
An understanding of media law, as well as the importance of balance and impartiality in reporting
Be committed to maintaining our editorial integrity and high standards of accuracy
Demonstrated experience writing as a journalist for digital news titles, and will be able to pitch, write and produce news and feature stories in the SBS's distinctive tone
A keen interest in what's happening in the world to develop storytelling in new and innovative ways to reach and engage wider audiences
A passion for providing news for all Australians
Solid copywriting skills with accuracy and attention to detail, enabling swift subbing for breaking and developing news
A knowledge and hunger to stay across new developments and trends in journalism and digital media
Good energy to collaborate with SBS News Digital teams, TV, Audio, ALC and NITV teams
The role involves shift work, including mornings, evenings and weekends.
