Job Overview
Xeni Gwet’in First Nations Government (XGFNG) is seeking a strategic and experienced Director to lead Xeni Gwet’in Enterprise (XGE), the Nation-owned construction and infrastructure services company. XGE supports community priorities by delivering construction services, infrastructure maintenance, and operational support for capital projects within and beyond Xeni Gwet’in territory. The Director, XGE provides leadership and operational oversight for construction activities, infrastructure maintenance, heavy equipment operations, and enterprise services that support the Nation’s development and community infrastructure.
The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, operational management, and construction industry experience, ensuring that projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with community priorities. This role offers an opportunity to help strengthen a Nation-owned enterprise while contributing to long-term infrastructure development and economic sustainability.
Duties
Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for Xeni Gwet’in Enterprise construction and infrastructure services.
Lead and supervise department staff including the Shop Maintenance Foreman, Village Maintenance Supervisor, heavy equipment operators, and Gas & Laundry Station Manager.
Oversee construction services that support capital and infrastructure projects, including site work, excavation, grading, and civil coordination.
Support project delivery by preparing cost estimates, equipment plans, labour projections, and construction schedules.
Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and internal departments to support infrastructure development projects.
Manage heavy equipment and fleet assets, ensuring preventative maintenance, safety compliance, and long-term equipment planning.
Oversee operations of the Xeni Gwet’in Gas and Laundry Station, ensuring compliance, operational efficiency, and cost recovery.
Develop and manage departmental budgets, financial forecasts, and project costing.
Ensure construction activities and infrastructure services meet safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.
Support emergency response and infrastructure recovery related to roads, access, and essential services.
Develop systems, procedures, and operational plans to improve efficiency and accountability within the enterprise.
Provide regular operational updates and strategic recommendations to Executive leadership.
Experience
Minimum five (5) years of progressive leadership or management experience overseeing operations, staff, and budgets.
Experience in construction management, civil works, infrastructure services, or heavy equipment operations is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience managing construction crews, contractors, and infrastructure-related projects.
Strong financial management skills including budgeting, forecasting, cost estimation, and project costing.
Experience overseeing equipment fleets, operational systems, and safety standards in construction or infrastructure environments.
Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to mentor staff and build high-performing teams.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate with contractors, engineers, leadership, and community members.
Experience working within First Nations governments, Indigenous organizations, or the public sector is considered an asset.
Knowledge of or willingness to learn and respect Tsilhqot’in culture, values, and governance principles is highly valued.
Pay: $40.00-$55.00 per hour
