KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Act as a senior member of the team and participate in the development and execution of strategic initiatives to expand lending presence and develop new client relationships.

Work with colleagues, generate proposals utilizing CIBC Capital Markets products and services to meet client needs. Assess the lending market in a team with other professionals in Corporate Banking in conjunction with other Corporate Banking, Investment Banking and Derivative groups, identify potential opportunities with existing and prospective clients.

Within the context of the overall CIBC Capital Markets’ relationship with the client, manage the credit relationship. Maintain an awareness of client needs. Tailor coverage to provide an exemplary client service. Maintain strong relationships with existing clients, ensuring their on-going credit needs are being met.

Ensure that the credit quality of a Borrower in a portfolio of select accounts is appropriately monitored and assessed and accurately evaluate the risk profile. Proactively identify changes caused by evolving credit factors (i.e. borrower, economic, market, industry, legal). Appropriately manage the portfolio, with a focus on compliance with terms and conditions of each credit, as well as strict compliance with internal procedures and guidelines. Ensures that accurate and consistent risk rating policies are applied across the portfolio.

The Director will be perceived both internally and externally as in strong command of credit risks associated with the companies in the sectors covered by the team and will be expected to apply a complete and current understanding of these risks in marketing to new clients and the management of the existing portfolio.

Ensure that recommendations and opinions offered to clients are in compliance with legislation, are of the highest professional standards and that they reflect the judgment of the firm. Be familiar with appropriate due diligence criteria and effectively conduct such analysis and enquiry investigation to provide CIBC Capital Markets with an appropriate “due diligence” defence under applicable securities legislation.

Responsibility for understanding and analyzing complex transactions and for conducting due diligence as well as coordinating the input and activities of many internal partners.

Ensure that all credit applications provide sound recommendations supported by a thorough analysis of relevant financial, business, industry and market information.

Develop a personal profile within the firm and assist in maintaining a high profile for the Bank within and outside the financial community. Meet with senior executives of clients and related business opportunities. Promotes CIBC as a value added provider of credit and energy derivative products.

Ability to deal with complex issues in a professional and pragmatic way.

Provide mentorship and leadership to more junior staff and contribute fresh perspectives to the team and business.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Strong academic background; minimum 7+ years related experience; MBA, CFA or other relevant professional designation eg accounting/modelling is preferred.
