ABOUT THE ROLES

Are you an experienced HR professional with a passion for building inclusive and high-performing workplaces? If so, these roles present an exciting opportunity to shape the strategic direction of AMSA’s workforce and help deliver on our vision of ‘Safe and clean seas, saving lives’.

The People and Property Branch is responsible for delivering the full spectrum of HR functions and managing an extensive property portfolio for AMSA. HR Directors in this branch have a significant leadership role both across the HR function and in advising and coaching senior leaders and managers across AMSA. Working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment you will be instrumental in delivering innovative and practical people solutions that support a positive employee experience and ensure AMSA is on track to deliver against Strategy 2030.

There are two Director roles available.

Director, Workforce Strategy and Recruitment

You will lead a small team of HR professionals to:

Develop, implement and evaluate AMSA’s Strategic Workforce Plan and Diversity and Inclusion Strategy in alignment with the organisational vision, mission and objectives.
Continuously improve recruitment and selection policy, system and process and oversee the delivery of best practice recruitment services across AMSA.
Deliver contemporary learning and development solutions aligned to AMSA priorities and Capability Framework.
Drive HR business partnering to embed operational workforce planning and change management across AMSA in alignment with the Strategic Workforce Plan.
Establish a workforce analytics function, including administration of AMSA’s engagement survey, to provide strategic advice, actionable workforce insights and analytics to a diverse set of stakeholders.
Lead and exemplify AMSA’s Code of Conduct and Values.
Director, Policy, Performance and Wellbeing

You will lead a small team of HR professionals to:

Develop, implement and evaluate AMSA’s employment frameworks, policies and programs to ensure compliance with industrial, legislative and regulatory requirements.
Proactively manage workplace relations to foster a positive and inclusive workplace and ensure the successful implementation of the AMSA Enterprise Agreement 2024-27.
Design and implement contemporary Work Health and Safety systems, frameworks and procedures.
Provide strategic direction, advice and support on staff health and wellbeing programs, guidelines and planning in consultation with business to effectively manage psychosocial risk and promote sustainable work practices.
Oversee the effective and efficient delivery of AMSA’s managed payroll function.
Be a trusted advisor on complex and/or sensitive workplace matters including performance management, code of conduct investigations and workplace disputes.
Lead and exemplify AMSA’s code of conduct and values.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

To be successful in these roles, you will be:

An experienced HR professional. It’s not essential that you have deep expertise across all facets of HR, but you will have demonstrated experience leading a diverse range of programs and initiatives relevant to the role responsibilities. This may include workforce strategy and planning, diversity and inclusion, organisational design, capability development, staff engagement, workforce analytics, work health and safety, performance and conduct, payroll, recruitment, employment policy, employee relations.
An inspiring manager, leader, coach and mentor. You have a proven ability to lead a high performing, inclusive and collaborative team and empower them to achieve by investing in their capability and managing competing demands and priorities.
A collaborator. You are able to actively build partnerships across the business to understand their needs and translate business and organisational priorities into action.
A critical thinker and problem solver. You have demonstrated ability to influence the future strategic direction of AMSA, using data and evidence to identify workforce risks and opportunities and design innovative solutions that have real and measurable impact.
A strong communicator and influencer. You have substantial experience in preparing complex written correspondence and impactful presentations that build a case for change and reflect diverse ideas and input.
Highly desirable but not essential:

Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources Management, Psychology, Management or Leadership (or a similar/equivalent field).
Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) Certification.

AMSA engages employees under the Australian Maritime Safety Authority Act 1990 and our remuneration arrangements are specific to AMSA. The advertised position is equivalent to an Executive Level 2 in the APS. While AMSA does not engage staff under the Public Service Act 1999, AMSA will facilitate the transfer of leave and Commonwealth service for successful candidates who meet the eligibility criteria.
