We are looking for a Director of Legal based in our Sydney CBD office.

About You
You will be responsible for Australasia-wide legal matters, partnering closely with business and functional leadership to support growth, manage legal and regulatory risk, and ensure compliance with applicable laws.

In this role, you will also participate actively in the Company's Leadership Committee.

Reports to the APAC SVP of Legal and Deputy General Counsel

Key responsibilities
Business Partnering – Contractual negotiations and commercial advice across all states, functions in Australasia

Key Advisor and member of Australasia leadership team –Provide legal advice and counsel to Head Office departments and regional offices. This includes contractual matters, employment matters, litigation, and acquisitions and divestitures.

Company Secretary – Perform all duties required of a Company Secretary for Otis, including all companies within its control within the Australasian region. This includes arranging board meeting minutes and filing statutory notices.

Partnerships – Manage the use of external counsel, including the budget. Provide instructions to external counsel on the conduct of litigation matters and administer broker relationships with appointed global insurance brokers.

Risk management – Manage and administer the legal risk management and ethics and compliance programs with the support of local Ethics and Compliance Officers in the various states across Australia and New Zealand.

Data Privacy – Act as Data Privacy Associate for Otis Australasia and develop and provide legal training to relevant parts of the Australasian operations.

EH&S and Ethics – Ensure all legal department activity complies with local and Otis EH&S and Ethics policies and procedures.

Trustee - Participation as a trustee of the Australian superannuation fund.

Lead and coach – Manage direct reports (Legal counsels).

What You Will Need to be Successful
You are an Australian-qualified lawyer with 10 years PQE, admitted to practice as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW, at least, or other States in Australia.

Have experience in both private practice and in-house roles would be preferred with solid experience or background in construction and commercial law

Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a data-driven approach to decision-making

Strong commercial acumen, project delivery capability, and the ability to balance operational excellence with business priorities

Possess good understanding of employment law and issues

Proven leadership and executive influencing skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

High-level organizational skills and able to prioritize efficiently.
