Director of Library and Information Services
We are seeking an energetic and experienced person to lead the Information Centre team at Scots College. This is a permanent, full-time appointment commencing in Term 2, 2026. We would be open to considering a trained teacher as a teacher librarian, should the right candidate apply, although this is not necessarily an essential requirement.

Candidates must have the right to work in New Zealand to apply for this role.

With a national and international reputation for excellence, Scots College is a world-class independent school with a strong Presbyterian heritage. It is a fully co-educational, IB World School in the Eastern suburbs of Wellington, New Zealand, and comprises three schools in one: Junior School (Years 1–6), Middle School (Years 7–10), and Senior School (Years 11–13). Our students receive an excellent, holistic education within a vibrant learning environment, our aim being to enable them to contribute as global citizens who think creatively, reason critically, communicate effectively, and develop the necessary skills to Learn. For life.

In support of the College’s Vision and Mission Statement, we recognise the importance of providing a supportive and innovative environment in which our students and staff can find information via a variety of resources that are up to date and relevant. We also recognise that input from Library users is crucial to the promotion of a reading culture and the delivery of information services, as well as ongoing continuous improvement. The Director of Library and Information Services needs to understand the links between all of these things. They should also be comfortable developing and implementing plans to ensure available resources meet the curriculum and information needs of classroom programmes.

Applicants should hold a relevant Library/Information qualification and must be able to demonstrate:

Relevant library experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A passion for reading, information literacy, and research
Competent to curate a collection that would engage young readers (11–18 years of age)
An unquestionable ability to build positive relationships with students and staff and ensure the Information Centre is welcoming for all
The ability to work with students of all ages and a willingness to assist them with their requests in a timely and efficient manner
Excellent organisational and time management skills
High standards of efficiency and accuracy
In addition, the following skills and attributes would be advantageous:

A high level of computer literacy, including using Accessit Library software
Knowledge of the IB programmes (especially MYP and Diploma)
Applications close on Wednesday 4 March 2026 and are to comprise a covering letter and current CV (covering at least the last five years of experience gaps explained and with the names of at least two referees).
