As the Director of Onboarding Product Design, you'll be a key strategic leader shaping the experience of how members first engage with Humana's digital ecosystem after enrollment. This position calls for expertise in registration, login, account creation and management, authentication, identity verification, and account recovery flows, ensuring our onboarding processes are seamless, secure, accessible, and built on trust. You will also provide support for post-enrollment needs, aiding members in confirming their plans, understanding their benefits, and acting efficiently.
Your leadership will guide a team of product designers in enhancing identity assurance and delivering a user-friendly onboarding experience, balancing usability, security, and regulatory compliance. As an influential partner and systems thinker, you will collaborate with Product, Engineering, Identity & Access Management (IAM), Marketing, and Legal teams to unify the onboarding strategy across all platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
• Lead, mentor, and nurture a team of product designers while promoting a high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative design culture.
• Define and implement the long-term design strategy for onboarding, ensuring experiences are member-centered, compliant, and in line with business priorities.
• Champion design excellence and establish a cohesive vision for identity-related experiences across both web and mobile platforms.
Domain Expertise - Identity & Access
• Oversee design for essential identity experiences including registration, login, multifactor authentication, identity verification, password management, and account recovery.
• Collaborate with IAM, Security, and Architecture teams to design effective authentication and verification workflows that adhere to enterprise risk thresholds.
• Ensure onboarding flows are compliant with accessibility regulations, privacy laws, and emerging identity standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with Product, Engineering, IAM, Legal, Compliance, and Marketing to define priorities and deliver unified solutions across platforms.
• Build trusting relationships with senior stakeholders, navigating constraints, and influencing teams in a complex, matrixed environment.
• Partner with Research and Content Design to enhance onboarding initiatives through behavioral insights, usability testing, and ongoing discovery.
Experience Quality & Delivery
• Ensure design outputs are of high quality, cohesive, and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of member needs, technical realities, and operational workflows.
• Utilize prototypes, journey maps, and storytelling to communicate design direction and ensure alignment with executive stakeholders.
• Establish design principles, future visions, and experience roadmaps that balance immediate delivery with long-term onboarding strategy.

Required Qualifications
• 12+ years of experience in UX or Product Design, with at least 4+ years in a senior or director-level leadership role.
• Demonstrated expertise in digital identity, including registration, login, authentication, identity verification, and account creation.
• Strong understanding of performance metrics and data-informed design.
• Experience leading design in complex, regulated, or high-security environments (e.g., healthcare, financial services, government, insurance).
• Strong portfolio showcasing systems thinking, scalable frameworks, and end-to-end experience design.
• Proven experience guiding user research and applying insights effectively to design.
• Ability to influence at all levels and drive cross-functionality.
• Strong organizational and prioritization abilities in fast-paced settings.
• Excellent analytical and process-oriented thinking skills.
• Mastery in Figma and modern design tools.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's Degree in a relevant design discipline (HCI, Interaction Design, UX Design).
• Experience designing inclusive and accessible experiences, particularly for older adults.
• Familiarity with IAM concepts (MFA, risk-based authentication, identity proofing, SSO).
Travel: Although this position is remote, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range
The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full-time (40 hours per week) employment. The pay range may vary based on geographic location and individual factors such as skills, knowledge, experience, education, and certifications.
$138,900 - $191,000 per year
This position is eligible for a bonus incentive plan based on company and individual performance.
