We’re currently looking for a high caliber professional to join our team as Director, Senior Counsel – Corporate and Commercial Banking – Hybrid (Internal Job Title: Legal Senior Group Manager - Product - C15) based in Mumbai, India. In this role, you’re expected to:
• This is a senior level position responsible for providing legal support, advice and guidance on a broad range of Loan product issues for the Corporate & Commercial Banking business team. The Corporate & Commercial Banking legal team is part of the broader Banking & International legal team. The role supports in Asia Pacific region. This position is responsible for serving as subject matter expert and key legal advisor to business stakeholders and functional partners by providing counsel and thought leadership on all aspects of legal matters related to the loan product. The overall objective of this role is to provide legal support, advice, and guidance across loans product offered by Citi businesses in various geographies within Asia.
• This role has a significant degree of responsibility and authority. This role has authority to negotiate and make independent decisions on issues that have critical impact or influence on the corporate and commercial banking loans business. This is a managerial role.
• The successful candidate will lead the Corporate & Commercial Banking legal team based in Mumbai. The role will directly manage up to 4 direct reports. The role reports directly to the Global Head of the Corporate and Commercial Banking legal team (who is based in London) .The candidate will be a part of and work closely with the wider global Corporate & Commercial Banking legal team and in particular the team in Hong Kong, New York, Tampa (USA) and London and Belfast (UK), Citi legal country counsels, the corporate and commercial bankers, compliance and risk management in Asia.
• Reviewing and advising on a wide range of loan documentation, including confidentiality agreements, marketing materials, commitment letters, uncommitted and committed loan documentation, guarantees, amendment and waiver documentation and legal opinions.
• This position demands the candidate to provide legal advice to corporate and commercial banking business of Citibank. The candidate is expected to analyze documentation against regulatory requirements and internal policies. The candidate should have the ability to independently handle legal issues and manage discussions with senior members of Risk, Compliance, Business, and other stakeholders on a routine basis and appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made.
• It is expected that the candidate demonstrates consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its client, by driving compliance with applicable laws and adhering to Citi policies and apply sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices.

As a successful candidate, you’d ideally have the following skills and exposure:
• 10- 15 or more years of experience. Subject matter expert in loans related legal issues including syndicated and bilateral lending, guarantees and collateral issues.
• Prior In-house/financial industry experience or experience of working in a law firm is a plus.
• Ability to multi-task and take ownership of several transactions and projects concurrently.
• Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational, relationship management skills.
• Knowledge and expertise on specific common laws, rules and regulations and enforcement actions related to regulations while staying abreast of the changing regulatory and legal environment, internal policies and industry trends that impact the lending business.
• Proven ability to apply sound judgement while managing complex subject matter and issues.
• Comprehensive knowledge of common law/ English law and international laws and practices.
