Job description:
The position is responsible for the operations of the State Planning Office. Strategically manage the outcomes of the State Planning Office and provide expert advice on planning issues including the development, maintenance and review of State-wide content and guidance for Tasmania’s planning system. This also includes the ongoing development and review of legislation and strategic policy for the Minister for Housing and Planning (the Minister) and the Secretary. Provide high level authoritative advice in relation to policy and legislative planning issues for the Department.

Duties
Responsible for the strategic oversight for the development, maintenance and review of the state content of the Tasmanian Planning Scheme and other State content, policy and resources relating to Tasmania’s planning system.
Manage the legislative and policy development and review program related to planning for the Minister and the agency including managing significant projects and conduct research into and analyse emerging issues.
Efficiently and effectively manage the human, financial, physical, information and other resources of the State Planning Office.
Provide high level advice to the Minister and the Secretary on the implications of Government proposals and matters within the Minister’s planning portfolio responsibilities and provide a focal point in the Department for expert advice on planning issues. This will include representing the Minister’s position at hearings and other forums and ensuring supporting information is available to the public and stakeholders.
Prepare high level documents for the Secretary and Minister including correspondence, Minutes, Cabinet Minutes, Parliamentary papers, Executive Council papers and project and policy documents and coordinate agency responses on planning issues.
Work closely with relevant staff in the Department and other agencies and consult and liaise with local government, the Tasmanian Planning Commission, the planning profession and stakeholders and ensure that legislation, policy and state planning content reflects government policy and considers the needs of the Tasmanian community.
Represent the Department in a range of forums and liaise with Government and Non-Government organisations including participating in and/or supporting the work of relevant high level Departmental, inter-departmental and inter-governmental bodies.
The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.
Essential Requirements
A degree of at least three years duration in Planning or a related discipline.

Desirable Requirements
Eligible for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia
