The Water Services Authority - Taumata Arowai is the water services regulator for Aotearoa New Zealand. It is a Crown entity governed by a Minister-appointed Board and advised on Māori interests and knowledge by a statutory Māori Advisory Group. Our responsibilities are to protect and promote drinking water safety and related public health outcomes - we regulate drinking water suppliers on behalf of the public. We also have an oversight role in relation to the environmental performance of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater networks.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
The Director Technical Advice and Analytics is accountable for the technical advice and operational insights that support our ability to effectively administer the drinking water regulatory system and provide oversight of the regulation, management, and environmental performance of drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater networks. The directorate will also work closely across the organisation to inform strategy and organisational priorities.
The Director Technical Advice and Analytics will
Provide people and thought leadership, leading a directorate of three functions: technical advice, data analytics and operational coordination
Develop and deliver the technical advice and insights programme for Taumata Arowai (with support to Operational work programme and Compliance, Monitoring Enforcement Strategy delivery) including regular monitoring against objectives, targets and milestones
Ensure the strategic application of data science and analytics is embedded in the governance and leadership of Taumata Arowai
Ensure that managers across the group translate operational policy into operating procedures and guidelines for their functional areas, and that this is reflected in business requirements for our IT platforms
Act as a trusted advisor for KOPA (our Senior Leadership team), the Māori Advisory Group, and the Board

We are looking for someone who has
Strong understanding of the application of technical knowledge and data analysis to support a regulatory organisation
Demonstrated experience leading a large operational service delivery and/or three waters related technical support function delivering high quality outputs.
Strong understanding of the application of technical knowledge and data analysis to support a regulatory organisation.
Demonstrated organisational and people leadership capabilities at a senior level
Experience driving results
Credibility with senior leaders to engage, influence and challenge where necessary
Experience providing strategic technical advice to Boards, Chief Executives and Leadership Teams
