The successful candidate will actively contribute to various projects spanning across critical technical deliveries, regulatory projects and platform enhancements requested by the product owner or business users. With a heavy emphasis on both technical and communication skills, the candidate will be expected to work closely with the Developers, Business Analysts, Architects and Project Managers across all regions and business clusters to deliver robust design and technical solutions in a controlled, transparent and actively risk managed fashion. Ensuring requirement, functional specifications, and unit testing requirements are well understood and participate in all aspects of analysis, design, implementation and deployment of all software related to these applications.
What will you be doing?
• Analyse new requirements to find the most appropriate technical solution and contribute to the overall system design
• Take responsibility and ownership of new feature development
• Document designs and communicate them with the team(s)
• Work on all aspects of analysis, design, implementation and deployment of all software, related to the core data applications
• Focus on good code quality and high test coverage and actively participate in code reviews
• Design and implement applications and data flows, for accuracy, timeliness, quality and control.
• Contribute to the delivery of complex projects in collaboration with global teams across Barclays, to develop new or enhance existing systems
• Setup and manage development meetings with application leads and business unit users
• Produce various management information reports showing trend analysis and KPI's
• Strong appreciation of development best practices
What we're looking for:
• Strong knowledge of;
• Core Java and technologies including JDBC, Rest API, JMS, multi-threading and messaging, XML processing, etc.
• Multi-threaded, high throughput, low-latency design of Java service components.
• Using caching methods and concurrency controls
• Performance tuning Java applications by using JVM profilers.
• Design patterns, object-oriented design principles and/or database design fundamentals
• DevOps, source control, unit and integration testing, continuous integration, release management, and other software development practices.
• Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio
• Intermediary experience in;
• Java, Unix and SQL
• Big data/Hadoop Technologies: HDFS, MapReduce, Yarn, Hive, HBase, Spark/2, Scala
• Third Party Software's including; Zookeeper, Kafka, Impala, HBase, Metastore
• Middleware including Solace, MQ & JMS and Web Service (SOAP & REST API)
• Performance and memory management, High volume data handling
• Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)
• Development using agile tools JIRA, Git, Team City, and Agile Central.
• Git/Stash for source and version control, Autosys for batch control and Team City/ Nexus for build/deployment
