Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Customer Engagement:
• Partner with CXOs, port operators, and key decision-makers to define high-impact business challenges within port and terminal operations.
• Facilitate the translation of strategic objectives into actionable initiatives, particularly across key port functional areas such as:
• Berth planning and allocation
• Vessel traffic management systems (VTMS)
• Container and cargo handling
• Gate operations and terminal logistics
• Port Community Systems (PCS)
• Customs and regulatory interfaces
• Port billing, tariffs, and revenue assurance
2. Port Operations Analysis:
• Lead as the SME in diagnosing operational inefficiencies and recommending improvements based on industry best practices.
• Drive business process re-engineering using LEAN and Six Sigma approaches where applicable.
• Conduct in-depth assessments of:
• Turnaround time (TAT) metrics for vessels, trucks, and containers
• Yard management strategies
• Intermodal logistics and hinterland connectivity
3. Execution of Port Technology and Business Initiatives:
• Work closely with engineering, data, and product teams to design and implement digital solutions like:
• Terminal Operating Systems (TOS)
• Digital Twin & Port Performance Dashboards
• Automation and smart gate systems
• Apply Agile practices for iterative development and ensure port operations needs are captured in product backlogs and user stories.
4. Market & Competitive Analysis:
• Analyse global port trends, shipping industry shifts, and digital transformation strategies adopted by leading ports (e.g., Rotterdam, Singapore, JNPT, Mundra).
• Provide data-driven insights to shape Waisl’s maritime and port technology roadmap.
5. Business Development & Stakeholder Management:
• Support pre-sales activities by presenting domain expertise and solution capabilities to potential clients.
• Assist the business development team in identifying new opportunities and partnerships in maritime digitization.
• Build long-term client relationships based on thought leadership and successful delivery.
6. Metrics & Reporting:
• Define and monitor KPIs such as berth occupancy, dwell times, equipment productivity, and overall port efficiency.
• Provide leadership with dashboards and reports highlighting progress, ROI, and strategic alignment.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology and an MBA from a Tier-1 institution preferred.
• 6+ years of experience in the shipping or maritime industry, including at least 4 years in Port Operations, Port IT Systems, or Maritime Consulting.
• Proven experience working with terminal operators, port authorities, or maritime logistics firms.
• Deep understanding of key port and terminal systems: PCS, TOS (Navis, Tideworks, etc.), ERP, customs single window systems.
• Familiarity with IMO regulations, IALA guidelines, SOLAS, ISPS, and other relevant compliance frameworks.
• Experience with Agile delivery models and managing cross-functional implementation teams.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Nice to Have:
• Certifications in Lean Six Sigma, Scrum Product Owner/Agile BA, or Maritime Logistics.
• Exposure to IoT, AI/ML, or Blockchain applications in port logistics and trade facilitation.
• Experience with port performance benchmarking (e.g., UNCTAD Liner Shipping Connectivity Index, World Bank Port Performance Index).
