About the Position
We are seeking a committed and culturally responsive DSG Student Support Officer to join our team and play a vital role in supporting young First Nations Australian women in their educational journey. This role is responsible for proactively supporting students through a culturally informed case management approach, ensuring they have the guidance, advocacy, and resources they need to thrive at school.
As a Student Support Officer, you will work directly with students, teachers, principals, families, and community partners to identify barriers to engagement, attendance, wellbeing, and retention. You will help implement effective early intervention strategies, promote cultural safety, and contribute to a school environment where young women feel supported, respected, and connected to their learning.
We are a supportive and family-friendly organisation, offering flexibility within an accountable framework. While school-based roles benefit from structured school holiday downtime, we expect high levels of reliability, communication, and engagement during school term delivery. This ensures consistent case management and meaningful support for students in achieving their educational goals.
This position is available on a part-time, fixed term basis for a maximum of 2 years and will work 22.5 hours (3 days) per week.
Key Responsibilities
Provide culturally responsive case management for First Nations students
Monitor attendance, engagement, and wellbeing to identify early intervention needs
Support students to overcome educational barriers, including attendance, behaviour, health, wellbeing, and sorry business
Work collaboratively with teachers, principals, families, Elders, and community services
Promote cultural safety and inclusiveness within the school environment
Build community connections to enhance wraparound support
Support WHS, student safety, and risk management processes
Contribute positively to team culture, role model values, and uphold organisational standards
What We’re Looking For
Strong understanding of First Nations cultures, community contexts, and cultural protocols
Experience working with young people in education, youth work, or community services
Ability to develop trusting relationships with students, families, and school staff
Confident in identifying support needs and planning culturally appropriate interventions
Reliable, organised, and committed to being present and engaged during school term
Skilled communicator with a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach
Ability to manage sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality
