We are currently recruiting for Duty Managers to work in Wellington.
Purpose
We are seeking an experienced Duty Manager to support the daily operation of a centrally located hotel in Wellington.
As Duty Manager, you will provide operational leadership across Front Office, Guest Services and Night Operations, while acting as the primary escalation point for guests, team members and contractors.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong decision-making, operational awareness, and the ability to confidently manage people, processes and guest outcomes in a fast-paced hotel environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Acting as Duty Manager across AM, PM and occasional overnight shifts, with accountability for hotel operations during these periods
Leading and supporting the Front Office team, including shift coordination, task delegation and real-time problem solving
Managing escalated guest issues and service recovery, ensuring matters are resolved promptly and professionally
Completing Front Office and Guest Services duties as required to support operational demand
Conducting daily shift briefings, including communication of VIP arrivals, group movements, maintenance issues and operational priorities
Ensuring compliance with hotel procedures, cash handling, audit requirements, CRM standards and brand service expectations
Coordinating and escalating maintenance and safety issues while on shift
Monitoring security systems, access controls and responding to incidents in line with hotel procedures
Supporting interdepartmental communication to ensure continuity of service and operational consistency
Skills, Experience and requirements
You will have:
A minimum of three years’ relevant hospitality experience in a supervisory, Duty Manager, Night Manager or comparable operational leadership role; OR
A relevant hospitality qualification (Diploma level or higher) combined with at least one year of relevant leadership experience
A current New Zealand Duty Manager’s Certificate (or ability to obtain one promptly)
Demonstrated experience managing guest escalations, operational issues and team performance
Proven ability to work rostered shifts, including weekends and public holidays
Strong verbal and written communication skills
A high level of professionalism, presentation and attention to detail
Ideally you will also have (these are preferences and not mandatory requirements):
Exceptional communication skills - Multilingual would be viewed as an advantage, with spoken and written English at a proficient level.
Immaculately presented – you have exceptional grooming and always wear the appropriate uniform and name badge, with pride! You make sure your team always look the part too.
Demonstrable expertise in facilitating general front office procedures, night audit processes, and general operational activities.
Considerable experience in a Duty Manager or Night Manager capacity in a similar style and sized property in which you were managing people.
Opera Cloud Property Management System experience.
Experience in supporting logistics functions including processing of invoices, following up with debtors, batching and processing bank statements, responding to account related inquiries, conducting weekly commission processes
You will be expected to attend to basic facilities requests, assist with guest luggage, as needed.
