Role Profile

The Electrification Core engineering team requires experienced E-machine engineer to apply world class design and analysis skills to improve Jaguar Land Rover'scapability to deliver the next generation e-Machines. The objective is to deliver levels of reliability and robustness into the Electric Drive Units (EDU), exceeding anything that we have seen before by using the latest tools and best practice Engineering Techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

Produce design models (component and assembly), detail designs, manufacturing specifications and operational documentation for mechanical solutions in relation to defined requirements.

To facilitate the component and assembly level design working from the technical briefs provided by program team and subject matter experts.

To produce calculations and apply engineering methods, tools and processes to support design process

To support the development of the production department through the generation of technical build manuals for each of our standard machines

Support research into machines and associated systems to push relevant technology beyond state of the art.

Work with e-Mag, structural FEA and Thermal CFD engineers to create motor design drawings and release to manufacturing.

Willing to perform basic structural / thermal analysis of e- Machines from high level prototype to mass production for e-mobility platforms.

Validates the design of new products or product enhancements by completing various analyses such as DFMEA, Design for Assembly/ Manufacturing studies.

Support e-drive manufacturing development including material sourcing, supplier engagement and assembly process development.

Evaluate design trade-offs of design choices (alternate material, tolerance specification etc.)

Skills, experience and qualifications

Essential:

Master’s in mechanical engineering specialization.

Minimum 7 years of industrial experience in the motor-generator technologies and the drivetrain architectures including efficiencies, durability, manufacturing concepts and control strategies.

Experience of project engineering with Tier 1 suppliers, preparation of project documentation and reports. Risk management, mitigation, and recovery planning.

Must have a working knowledge in most electric drive unit and power electronics including electric machines, inverters, converters and chargers.

Experience of system/component delivery within an APQP, six sigma or similar framework (FMEA, DVP, quality planning, PPAP etc.) and full product lifecycle activities.

Fundamental understanding of structural and durability simulation methods.

Fundamental understanding of fluid flow and thermal simulation methods.

Excellent understanding on key e-Machine components manufacturing and assembly processes will be considered as a strong asset.

Excellent understanding of various motor technologies applicable for automotive (Induction Motor, PM Machine, Axial Flux machine, etc.)

Strong people skills and the ability to work individually and in a cross functional team

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Good knowledge of the main e-Machine Failure modes.

Experience with e-Machine Design and Development in automotive or off-highway applications is a strong asset.

Desired:

Familiarity with Product development Process.

Knowledge of key processes in the Automotive including requirements capture process and documentation, FMEAs, Functional validation & Durability analysis.

Knowledge of challenges associated with integrating component designs into mass vehicle production systems.

Previous experience of electric drive unit sub-assembly or assembly testing: test standards and specification, rig set up, execution and correlation.

Working knowledge of Electric machine, drive system, Traction Batteries, and Inverters.
