Job Description

Kaleido Early Learning Center is a warm, inclusive, and community-focused early childhood education center dedicated to providing high-quality care and learning for young children. Located in the heart of Papakura, we offer a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where children are encouraged to explore, grow, and develop confidence through play-based learning.

We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic ECE teacher to join our team and contribute to our vibrant learning community.


Job Responsibilities:

Learning Environment

Learning environments are maintained as safe and hygienic at all times and any potential hazards to children are identified and responded to promptly.
Promote positive relationships amongst children and actively cultivate an acceptance of differences in culture, gender, and family background, through choice of resources and teaching materials selected. along with language and strategies used.
Create environments to actively engage all children in the programme and explore their environment.
Organise the learning environment for children and their families to a high standard of presentation. Think and create displays / table settings with purpose.
Ensure that the learning environment is welcoming for families and children in the morning and clean and tidy at the end of the day, with experiences set up for the following day.

Teaching / Curriculum:

Plan and lead the programme and dally core experiences for the children, in accordance with current projects and/or children's individual plans
Demonstrate knowledge of, and role model the inclusion of Treaty of Waitangi. Te Reo and Tikanga Māori in daily interactions
use Te Whāriki as the basis for all planning and documentation, and assist others in understanding and using.
Support good planning practices, including the assessment procs: of notice, recognise, respond, and produce appropriate documentation.
Plan for individual children’s learning, implement ideas, and evaluate their effectiveness /outcomes Support the team with their planning where needed.
Role model and actively guide children in the development of independent skills, and monitor/ be aware of individual progress.
Engage in dialogue with colleagues and your centre Support / centre Manager where concerns regarding children and their development are.
Maintain children's portfolios in hard cop and online (if applicable)
Leadership and participation in in initiatives such as the Centre Work groups

With children

Actively supervise children at all times, intervene where necessary to prevent harm
Respond to children's requests for assistance in a timely manner.
Demonstrate respect for all children, regardless of culture gender, age, and ability, and actively seek to assist children to make connections with others
Role model developmentally appropriate social interaction, behaviour, strategies es and language at all times
Communicate with children at their level and use language to support more complex play of language.
Acknowledge and respond to children's emotional needs with sensitivity and respect
Centre behaviour management guidelines and policy are to be followed at all times
Care routines such as sleeping, eating, and nappy changes/toileting, are to be carried out in accordance with centre policy, philosophy, and pedagogical approach.
Work collaboratively with the team to ensure pedagogical approaches relating to the area / age group the team are working with.

With Parents/Whānau:

Parents /whānau are greeted by name and warmly welcomed to the centre environment
A courteous, professional manner is used at all times during communication and interactions with parents/whānau.
Confidentiality is maintained at all times, and this is role modelled actively for junior team members
Feedback about a child's day is given in a positive manner and is focused on experiences had during the day. The raising of any concerns is to be dealt with professionally and with sensitivity.
Parent concerns of a more serious nature are discussed promptly with the Centre Support/Centre Manager.
Contact is made with new parents when required and orientation is organised accordingly. Parents of children transitioning internally are introduced to the new room and teaching staff. and have sufficient notification of their child's move date.
Be the 'professional' point of contact for your parents/whānau
Provide advice and support for your team around working with parents/whānau

With Visitors / External Professionals:

If engaged as an associate teacher, you assume responsibility for the student teacher while in the centre and you agree to mentor them accordingly, including addressing any concerns in a timely manner.
All visitors are to be directed to sign in at reception.
Any unauthorised or unfamiliar people who arrive to collect children should be directed to reception first to ensure they have parental consent to collect the child.
Liaison with external professionals such as ESW's, Speech-Language therapists and other ECE professionals is to be handled professionally and responsibility
Ensure all visitors adhere to centre policy and procedure at all times.
Conduct tours of your area with prospective families when required.

With Colleagues:

Communicate clearly, accurately, and effectively with the team, including ensuring all messages/comments from parents are passed on to the appropriate people.
Actively foster an environment of co-operation and collaboration.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all colleagues, regardless of personal attitudes to diversity, gender, and age. Support colleagues to do the same.
Demonstrate initiative, assume a fair share of the workload and delegate duties where appropriate
Raise issues /concerns promptly with the person concerned and assist others to deal with conflict/ issues in a collegial way.
Be considerate of others and flexible if needed.
Ensure teaching rosters are followed and delegate non-contact sessions as required
Support professional dialogue regarding children's learning and suggest ideas / strategies to implement strategies / ideas to enhance the experiences offered
If engaged as a mentor teacher for the purposes of supporting a PRT, the centre guidelines for teacher registration are followed
Delegate responsibilities to team, working with people's strengths and distribute workload equitably.
Work collegially with other Head teachers & Team Leaders

Professional/Personal Responsibilities:

Your uniform is to be worn in accordance with the staff handbook, with the logo visible.
Pride is taken in your appearance.
Conduct is professional at all times, and behaviour reflects the influence as a role model in the centre.
Punctuality and arriving for work on-time and ready for the day is essential.
Centre procedure & policy is followed as written or instructed at all times, including expectations as detailed in the staff handbook.
Attendance at all Professional development each year as required
Attendance / participation in all staff meetings as scheduled throughout the year
Full participation in your own annual Performance Reviews and in the development and implementation of individualised goals as required.
Participation in the performance review of all teachers you have responsibility for, including the use of feedback you have given, and conversations / support recorded throughout the year.
The NZTC Registered Teacher Criteria form part of this Position Description and are used accordingly as part of performance review
Decisions by Centre Management are communicated in a positive manner to parents/whanau and colleagues
Conversations do not undermine the culture of the centre or organisation, and if such conversations are overheard, it is the responsibility of Team leaders to hold colleagues accountable

Administrative Responsibilities:

All relevant documentation relating to OSH, cleaning, hazard identification is completed
Adherence to centre procedure at all times
Relevant documentation is completed, collated, analysed, and archived as needed. This includes medicine, accident/illness, planning forms, and timesheets and staff hour counts
Use centre equipment, including computers & iPad's appropriately and in line with the current Cybersafety policy and as per the staff use agreement.
Induction of new employees as delegated
Ensure information collected is used for the purpose it was collected for.
Manage petty cash and receipting.
Manage art/stationary orders as required

Regulatory Responsibilities:

Ministry of education ratios are known of and maintained at all times.
Adhere to the Early Childhood Regulations, and any special licensing criteria your area of work has

General:

Other duties may be delegated from time to time by management.
This document may be amended /updated from t me to time as agreed by both parties.

To be qualified for this role:
1. Qualifications & Registration

A recognised Early Childhood Education qualification (Level 7 or above)
Current or provisional teacher registration with Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand
A current practicing certificate (or eligibility to obtain one)
2. Experience & Skills

Previous experience working in an ECE setting (preferred but not essential for new graduates)
Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate learning programmes
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Positive guidance and behaviour management approach
3. Personal Attributes
