Job Description

Job description
Hello, we’re Starling. We built a new kind of bank because we knew technology had the power to help people save, spend and manage their money in a new and transformative way. We’re a fully licensed UK bank with the culture and spirit of a fast-moving, disruptive tech company. We’re a bank, but better: fairer, easier to use and designed to demystify money for everyone. We employ more than 3,000 people across our London, Southampton, Cardiff and Manchester offices.
We are recruiting an Economic Crime Officer to join the Second Line Economic Crime function of the Bank. Within this team, we tackle all types of financial crime and fraud, providing oversight and working with stakeholders throughout the business to ensure the protection of our customers.
As an Economic Crime Officer, you'll play a key role in protecting Starling and its customers by ensuring that our internal practices comply with regulation, are carried out in line with procedure, compliment our values, and deliver fair outcomes to our customers. This role will provide support to the business within a 2nd line. It will include the provision of assurance to management on the adequacy of Starling’s key controls and risk management activities, horizon scanning and controls testing.

Responsibilities
• Assisting in the planning of assurance reviews or controls testing by gaining an understanding of the area in question;
• Develop assurance tools, to help monitor the adequacy and operational effectiveness of fraud and financial crime prevention controls and operational output;
• Capturing outputs of reviews into a formal report, and communicating these to relevant stakeholders across the organisation;
• Review of key controls, such as transaction monitoring;
• Work with wider teams across the business to ensure best practice is being met;
• Analysing quality data metrics, trends and patterns, and sharing common themes with stakeholders;
• Horizon scanning for upcoming regulatory changes, including impact assessments;
• Periodically review compliance with regulation, and codes of best practice.

Requirements:
• Experience working in a fraud/financial crime role or similar;
• Good Knowledge of the The Bank’s regulatory obligations under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA);
• Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills along with the use of initiative to solve problems independently, while maintaining attention to detail at all times;
• Inquisitive by nature, with the ability to query data, understand complex problems and identify potential solutions;
• Good at building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, with the ability to present findings and recommendations both written and orally;
• Able to adapt to change positively and quickly.

Benefits:
• 25 days holiday (plus take your public holiday allowance whenever works best for you)
• An extra day’s holiday for your birthday
• Annual leave is increased with length of service, and you can choose to buy or sell up to five extra days off
• 16 hours paid volunteering time a year
• Salary sacrifice, company enhanced pension scheme
• Life insurance at 4x your salary & group income protection
• Private Medical Insurance with VitalityHealth including mental health support and cancer care. Partner benefits include discounts with Waitrose, Mr&Mrs Smith and Peloton
• Generous family-friendly policies
