Job Description
The Washington Times is seeking an ambitious and sharp Deputy Commentary Editor to join our Opinion Department. The successful candidate will assist in managing the solicitation, selection, and production of unique and compelling commentary articles and op-eds that contribute to and lead current national political discussion and debate.
This role requires sharp news judgment, rock-solid editing skills, and the ability to show initiative and be a self-starter. The ideal candidate will have a degree with a journalism major strongly preferred and five years of experience editing and writing opinion pieces.
Key Responsibilities:
Solicit op-eds from top conservative opinion makers in tandem with the news cycle to stimulate and mold public opinion on a broad range of issues.
Edit opinion contributions for publication, requiring clear and effective writing skills and the ability to see opportunities in the news cycle and fill them with timely pieces.
Collaborate effectively within teams as well as work independently.
Requirements:
Degree with a journalism major (strongly preferred).
Five years of experience editing and writing opinion pieces.
Excellent writing and editing skills.
Passion for politics and policy.
