Editor – Kia Ora Magazine

Full-time, Auckland

Kia Ora is Air New Zealand’s award-winning inflight magazine and a flagship storytelling platform for Aotearoa that is produced by Are Media, the country’s largest magazine publisher.

It connects millions of domestic and international readers with the people, places and ideas that define who we are and where we’re going.

We are seeking an exceptional Editor to lead Kia Ora and enhance the success of one of the country’s best read and respected magazines: someone who understands the power of editorial excellence, the nuance of brand partnership, and the responsibility that comes with representing one of New Zealand’s most loved brands on the world stage.

The role

As Editor, you will have overall responsibility for the execution of Kia Ora. You will work closely with stakeholders to translate strategic goals and values into compelling and culturally resonant content.

This is a highly collaborative role that requires strong editorial judgement, commercial savvy and sound leadership. You will be a confident custodian of the brand and create content environments that are both inspiring and strategically effective.

Key responsibilities

Set and lead the editorial vision and long-term content strategy for Kia Ora, commissioning and creating world-class content.
Build and nurture a strong, trusted partnership with Air New Zealand, ensuring their goals, values and ambitions are authentically reflected through content.
Champion editorial integrity while delivering commercially smart, brand-aligned storytelling.
Lead, inspire and develop a high-performing editorial team and network of contributors.
Commission, curate and edit world-class content across print and digital platforms
Create innovative editorial approaches that strengthen Air New Zealand’s connection with New Zealanders and international audiences
Manage budgets, workflows and production timelines to ensure consistently high standards
About you

A highly experienced editor with a strong background in premium publishing.
Deep editorial judgement with the confidence to balance creativity, commercial objectives and brand responsibility.
Proven ability to build trusted senior-level client relationships
A natural leader who brings clarity, calm and inspiration to teams
Strategic thinker with an eye for innovation and audience insight
Meticulous attention to detail, accuracy and storytelling craft
A strong understanding of Aotearoa, its culture and its place in the world
Why join us?

This is a rare opportunity to help shape one of New Zealand’s most visible and influential editorial platforms and to tell stories that travel the world. You’ll work at the intersection of journalism, creativity and brand, with the backing of a passionate team and an iconic client.

If you are a values-led editor who believes great storytelling can build connection, trust and pride, we would love to hear from you.
